Over 160 NHS staff members and academics from the south central region took part in the first regional Putting Evidence into Practice (PEP) Conference on 24 September 2009 at the Rose Bowl cricket ground.

SHSSW is now teaching advanced radiography and imaging theory incorporating image manipulation and diagnostics to radiography students, following the installation of the Ysio Wi-D general Digital Radiography (DR) system from Siemens Healthcare. We are the first University in the UK to have a dedicated digital radiography system.

Isolde recently joined SHSSW to study for a PhD investigating dietary patterns and food choice behaviour of food allergic consumers. This PhD studentship is funded by the Institute for Basic Biomedical Sciences.
Religious documentary wins at film festival

A documentary film about an orthodox Jewish sect living in Israel has won recognition at an international film festival competition. Dr Yohai Hakak, who co-directed the film as part of his PhD and Post-Doctoral work, collected the award for Best TV Film at the International Film Festival ‘Religion Today’ in Rome last week.
New tactic in fight against cholera

A University of Portsmouth scientist is hoping to trick the deadly cholera-causing bacteria and save thousands of lives.Research fellow Dr Helen Vincent has won a prestigious €50,000 Marie Curie International Re-integration Award to bring her expertise to Britain after six years studying in the US.

A University of Portsmouth professor has been selected from almost 1400 candidates to win a prestigious international award.Professor Darek Gorecki has won a Fulbright Distinguished Scholarship, one of just about two awards conferred annually to outstanding UK professionals or academics by the Fulbright Commission.
