Information for new students

Welcome to Portsmouth

These pages will help you prepare for life at the University of Portsmouth. For EU and International students there is a customised section in the list below.

Welcome from the Vice – Chancellor, Professor Graham Galbraith

A university education is a big investment in your future.

At the University of Portsmouth, students are at the centre of all we do. Our dedicated academics – who are leaders in their fields – and our comprehensive learning resources, will provide you with a world-class education.

The University of Portsmouth has recently been awarded the highest Gold rating in the UK government’s Teaching Excellence Framework. We are one of only four universities in the South East region to be rated Gold.

With your motivation to succeed, we will prepare you for a successful career by expanding your knowledge and expertise, providing a careers service lasting up to five years after you leave and offering those important employment opportunities.

The University campus is in the heart of the city and our approachable student services are here to advise you on all aspects of student life including housing, finance and health issues. Most recently, 88% of University of Portsmouth final year students rated us highly for overall student satisfaction (UK National Student Survey 2017).

Our courses support students to develop a global perspective; we are an international university. We also believe in giving back to the community and, as part of their courses, many students share their expertise by volunteering in the city, region and overseas.

I am delighted you are joining us for your higher education studies.
