it's nice to be invited back 0:05:00.639,0:05:05.120 again to 0:05:01.759,0:05:05.840 um to share the next step of the story 0:05:05.120,0:05:07.280 really 0:05:05.840,0:05:08.840 so can i first just confirm that 0:05:07.280,0:05:11.199 everyone can see the screen that i've 0:05:08.840,0:05:14.320 shared 0:05:11.199,0:05:16.000 splendor thank you okay so 0:05:14.320,0:05:17.440 obviously i really need no introduction 0:05:16.000,0:05:20.080 because ross has done 0:05:17.440,0:05:20.560 um a lovely job off that already so what 0:05:20.080,0:05:24.080 i'll do 0:05:20.560,0:05:26.400 i'll just um move on through that 0:05:24.080,0:05:27.600 slide uh lovely to be here from summons 0:05:26.400,0:05:29.440 university 0:05:27.600,0:05:31.039 and lovely to be here also in my 0:05:29.440,0:05:32.720 capacity as 0:05:31.039,0:05:34.720 a southeast board member of the 0:05:32.720,0:05:36.400 chartered management institute 0:05:34.720,0:05:38.000 and have the opportunity to 0:05:36.400,0:05:40.320 [Music] 0:05:38.000,0:05:41.199 share the findings of the just launched 0:05:40.320,0:05:45.199 um 0:05:41.199,0:05:46.720 survey which is management transformed 0:05:45.199,0:05:48.960 but before we move into that 0:05:46.720,0:05:50.800 just picking up from where we left off 0:05:48.960,0:05:52.639 last time and i'm not sure if we've got 0:05:50.800,0:05:55.440 any people um 0:05:52.639,0:05:56.479 in the session today that did attend on 0:05:55.440,0:05:58.400 the 0:05:56.479,0:05:59.759 summer sessions of winning in the solar 0:05:58.400,0:06:03.039 region um 0:05:59.759,0:06:06.080 we looked at the cmi toolkit called 0:06:03.039,0:06:09.280 the better managers manual and 0:06:06.080,0:06:10.720 this was um a toolkit that we shared 0:06:09.280,0:06:12.560 with everyone 0:06:10.720,0:06:14.319 um reflecting on obviously the 0:06:12.560,0:06:15.600 challenges that we had as a result of 0:06:14.319,0:06:18.080 being plunged into 0:06:15.600,0:06:19.919 the first lockdown and everything that 0:06:18.080,0:06:21.440 we all experienced 0:06:19.919,0:06:23.199 and the themes that came out of that of 0:06:21.440,0:06:24.319 course were flexible working the crisis 0:06:23.199,0:06:26.639 management 0:06:24.319,0:06:28.319 uh managing mental health and well-being 0:06:26.639,0:06:30.080 and what we've seen was obviously a new 0:06:28.319,0:06:31.680 employment landscape and an increasing 0:06:30.080,0:06:35.520 need for new governance 0:06:31.680,0:06:38.960 um being a key priority so that was 0:06:35.520,0:06:41.199 um used as a discussion piece um 0:06:38.960,0:06:43.199 we are delighted now to be able to share 0:06:41.199,0:06:44.319 management transformed managing in a 0:06:43.199,0:06:47.199 marathon crisis 0:06:44.319,0:06:49.360 this is a very recent piece of research 0:06:47.199,0:06:52.560 that was just 0:06:49.360,0:06:54.319 launched earlier this month and 0:06:52.560,0:06:57.039 we're going to use that today to really 0:06:54.319,0:06:58.880 just share and showcase 0:06:57.039,0:07:00.800 what really has been happening how have 0:06:58.880,0:07:01.520 we understood it and what can we learn 0:07:00.800,0:07:04.479 from it 0:07:01.520,0:07:04.960 so we can actually plan ahead uh within 0:07:04.479,0:07:08.560 this 0:07:04.960,0:07:11.039 uncertain world i think what has been 0:07:08.560,0:07:14.880 most uh enlightening really as part of 0:07:11.039,0:07:18.160 the findings of management transformed 0:07:14.880,0:07:20.080 what the cmi found was that they sort of 0:07:18.160,0:07:21.840 had gone in assuming the outcome of the 0:07:20.080,0:07:23.440 research would be one thing 0:07:21.840,0:07:25.039 uh but actually of course it was 0:07:23.440,0:07:29.039 something different 0:07:25.039,0:07:32.639 uh ultimately the thoughts were that if 0:07:29.039,0:07:35.680 the assumption was that if location 0:07:32.639,0:07:37.599 um was sort of key to productivity they 0:07:35.680,0:07:39.759 felt that if you work remotely in the 0:07:37.599,0:07:41.759 workplace or in a hybrid way 0:07:39.759,0:07:43.360 that would actually be pivotal to the 0:07:41.759,0:07:46.720 role of the overall 0:07:43.360,0:07:49.120 success of your organization um 0:07:46.720,0:07:51.199 cmi also went into the research thinking 0:07:49.120,0:07:53.360 that the rising of the falling demand of 0:07:51.199,0:07:57.360 an organization's goods or services 0:07:53.360,0:08:00.160 would also make a difference in the 0:07:57.360,0:08:01.360 success of the business but ultimately 0:08:00.160,0:08:04.479 what it showed was 0:08:01.360,0:08:06.639 it was actually the way that the 0:08:04.479,0:08:08.560 people in organizations were actually 0:08:06.639,0:08:12.000 led and managed 0:08:08.560,0:08:15.280 had the most significant impact on 0:08:12.000,0:08:18.800 the productivity of the businesses 0:08:15.280,0:08:20.879 and um i could probably echo a lot of 0:08:18.800,0:08:22.160 that just anecdotally by what was 0:08:20.879,0:08:25.039 discussed really 0:08:22.160,0:08:27.120 in a lot of the earlier sessions we 0:08:25.039,0:08:27.680 talked a lot about shock we talked a lot 0:08:27.120,0:08:30.160 about 0:08:27.680,0:08:32.560 the uh coming to terms with what had 0:08:30.160,0:08:32.880 happened almost like managing grief you 0:08:32.560,0:08:34.640 know 0:08:32.880,0:08:36.080 coming to terms with the loss of life as 0:08:34.640,0:08:38.839 we actually knew it 0:08:36.080,0:08:40.560 um and what we did see was a lot of 0:08:38.839,0:08:43.279 organizations 0:08:40.560,0:08:43.839 and managers of small businesses and 0:08:43.279,0:08:45.680 large 0:08:43.839,0:08:47.279 really having to work hard to make sense 0:08:45.680,0:08:49.839 of what was happening and it put them 0:08:47.279,0:08:53.040 under really a lot of challenge 0:08:49.839,0:08:54.080 really they had to dig deep to pull on 0:08:53.040,0:08:56.959 their management 0:08:54.080,0:08:59.360 and skills and abilities to be able to 0:08:56.959,0:09:01.360 move their businesses forwards 0:08:59.360,0:09:03.200 so ultimately in summary productivity 0:09:01.360,0:09:04.800 isn't about where you work it's about 0:09:03.200,0:09:07.120 how you are managed 0:09:04.800,0:09:08.399 okay now we know it's important to have 0:09:07.120,0:09:09.600 all of the tools 0:09:08.399,0:09:12.160 and everything that you need at your 0:09:09.600,0:09:14.080 fingertips to be able to deliver on your 0:09:12.160,0:09:15.760 business goals and whatever products 0:09:14.080,0:09:17.839 your businesses are 0:09:15.760,0:09:20.160 and i think we definitely seen that with 0:09:17.839,0:09:22.160 organizations who maybe 0:09:20.160,0:09:23.920 weren't on the cloud organizations who 0:09:22.160,0:09:24.640 maybe didn't have access to all of their 0:09:23.920,0:09:26.880 files 0:09:24.640,0:09:27.680 and be in that position to actually work 0:09:26.880,0:09:29.279 anywhere 0:09:27.680,0:09:32.320 having to really make a bit of a quick 0:09:29.279,0:09:35.760 scramble to really make that happen 0:09:32.320,0:09:38.240 uh also we've seen organizations 0:09:35.760,0:09:40.000 that maybe um their business type was a 0:09:38.240,0:09:41.760 small business on high street 0:09:40.000,0:09:43.920 and if they hadn't got the ability to 0:09:41.760,0:09:45.680 actually put that business online to 0:09:43.920,0:09:48.080 sell their products online 0:09:45.680,0:09:49.839 um obviously their productivity was 0:09:48.080,0:09:50.720 impacted that way as well so that's 0:09:49.839,0:09:53.040 something that we can 0:09:50.720,0:09:54.880 certainly come on to later about how you 0:09:53.040,0:09:56.560 be more agile at so you can actually 0:09:54.880,0:10:01.200 work forwards 0:09:56.560,0:10:04.880 um but really the research findings here 0:10:01.200,0:10:07.839 have shown that ultimately there is a 0:10:04.880,0:10:09.920 shift now um as we're in the last 0:10:07.839,0:10:12.959 quarter of this calendar year 0:10:09.920,0:10:14.240 very very much a shift where less people 0:10:12.959,0:10:15.040 are actually working in the physical 0:10:14.240,0:10:17.360 workplace 0:10:15.040,0:10:19.040 and we're seeing an increase in that 0:10:17.360,0:10:21.519 hybrid and virtual 0:10:19.040,0:10:23.440 approach to working and what it is 0:10:21.519,0:10:25.839 forecast is that we will 0:10:23.440,0:10:27.120 never return to the traditional five-day 0:10:25.839,0:10:30.399 week in an office 0:10:27.120,0:10:31.040 um there is obviously strong evidence to 0:10:30.399,0:10:34.000 suggest 0:10:31.040,0:10:35.760 that productivity can still be carried 0:10:34.000,0:10:38.000 out with effective management 0:10:35.760,0:10:40.160 where all the tools are in place so we 0:10:38.000,0:10:43.519 are seeing greater greater flexibility 0:10:40.160,0:10:45.760 being used within our organizations 0:10:43.519,0:10:47.760 we have mentioned the well-being world 0:10:45.760,0:10:51.279 word already 0:10:47.760,0:10:52.959 ultimately the recommendations are that 0:10:51.279,0:10:56.320 communication is key 0:10:52.959,0:10:59.120 and looking after your people is key 0:10:56.320,0:11:01.600 you will see from the research findings 0:10:59.120,0:11:02.399 here just the simple things of being 0:11:01.600,0:11:05.200 able to 0:11:02.399,0:11:06.480 reach out connect with people it's 0:11:05.200,0:11:10.399 something that is 0:11:06.480,0:11:12.399 very very basic in our motivators and 0:11:10.399,0:11:15.440 what actually makes us happy as 0:11:12.399,0:11:16.880 people so um you will see there's a 0:11:15.440,0:11:18.800 range of 0:11:16.880,0:11:21.200 skills and attributes here of course 0:11:18.800,0:11:23.760 that you see within the relationship of 0:11:21.200,0:11:25.200 um like business owners and ultimately 0:11:23.760,0:11:29.680 staff members 0:11:25.200,0:11:32.079 um but what we are seeing is that um 0:11:29.680,0:11:32.800 recognizing that the people that work in 0:11:32.079,0:11:34.800 your teams 0:11:32.800,0:11:36.160 do actually need to hear from you on a 0:11:34.800,0:11:37.839 regular basis 0:11:36.160,0:11:39.839 but need to hear the impact of the 0:11:37.839,0:11:40.640 decision making or what actually might 0:11:39.839,0:11:43.680 be happening 0:11:40.640,0:11:45.040 so um we know that that is something 0:11:43.680,0:11:47.279 that people have learned how to do 0:11:45.040,0:11:47.680 better and ultimately it's refining that 0:11:47.279,0:11:50.880 more 0:11:47.680,0:11:50.880 as we move forwards 0:11:51.120,0:11:57.360 um i come from the hr world 0:11:54.399,0:11:59.920 and of course within the hr world uh 0:11:57.360,0:12:02.800 employee engagement is the ultimate goal 0:11:59.920,0:12:04.240 that organizations are wanting to 0:12:02.800,0:12:05.839 achieve if you've got an engaged 0:12:04.240,0:12:07.120 workforce you're going to 0:12:05.839,0:12:08.959 ultimately have high levels of 0:12:07.120,0:12:11.120 productivity because your 0:12:08.959,0:12:12.720 employees will stay longer they will be 0:12:11.120,0:12:15.040 happier and you don't have the 0:12:12.720,0:12:16.720 increasing costs of staff turnover and 0:12:15.040,0:12:17.760 having to go to find those great people 0:12:16.720,0:12:19.760 again 0:12:17.760,0:12:20.880 so ultimately if you can create a 0:12:19.760,0:12:23.279 workplace 0:12:20.880,0:12:24.160 where your people are happy that will 0:12:23.279,0:12:26.480 actually take 0:12:24.160,0:12:29.040 a lot of the pains away from your from 0:12:26.480,0:12:30.560 your business model 0:12:29.040,0:12:32.160 but of course we know that the 0:12:30.560,0:12:34.880 traditional uh 0:12:32.160,0:12:37.360 physical place of work that of course a 0:12:34.880,0:12:39.120 lot of our businesses were built around 0:12:37.360,0:12:41.279 has been pretty much swept away from 0:12:39.120,0:12:42.160 under our feet and as mentioned in the 0:12:41.279,0:12:44.720 earlier 0:12:42.160,0:12:47.120 uh slides there is this shift for a more 0:12:44.720,0:12:49.600 hybrid working business model 0:12:47.120,0:12:50.839 so it's how then as a business owner you 0:12:49.600,0:12:53.839 can actually 0:12:50.839,0:12:56.959 work with your business to ensure 0:12:53.839,0:12:59.760 that everyone that works in your team 0:12:56.959,0:13:02.639 has got what makes them happy and then 0:12:59.760,0:13:06.639 how do you compensate for these elements 0:13:02.639,0:13:08.240 maybe further down um on this 0:13:06.639,0:13:09.839 scale here how do you actually 0:13:08.240,0:13:11.839 compensate for that whenever it's 0:13:09.839,0:13:13.600 actually out of your control 0:13:11.839,0:13:15.680 ultimately comfort of a working 0:13:13.600,0:13:18.560 environment uh we know it was it was 0:13:15.680,0:13:20.639 very different in lockdown 2.0 0:13:18.560,0:13:23.440 where we had rain beating on the window 0:13:20.639,0:13:25.200 pane in our homes whereas everyone was 0:13:23.440,0:13:27.040 sort of trying to work in the sunshine 0:13:25.200,0:13:28.079 in their back gardens during the first 0:13:27.040,0:13:31.120 lockdown 0:13:28.079,0:13:34.320 and ultimately this has a big impact 0:13:31.120,0:13:35.040 on uh health and well-being and of 0:13:34.320,0:13:36.639 course 0:13:35.040,0:13:38.880 the happiness of people as they actually 0:13:36.639,0:13:41.519 carry out the work that they're doing 0:13:38.880,0:13:42.160 and so these are also important things 0:13:41.519,0:13:44.399 to be 0:13:42.160,0:13:45.360 aware of the anxiety and loneliness 0:13:44.399,0:13:47.760 piece of course 0:13:45.360,0:13:49.920 is really key and this links into the 0:13:47.760,0:13:51.839 earlier recommendation around 0:13:49.920,0:13:53.120 communicating and actually over 0:13:51.839,0:13:55.519 communicating 0:13:53.120,0:13:56.880 um to ensure that everyone is in that 0:13:55.519,0:13:59.600 place 0:13:56.880,0:14:03.120 we know that if your business is not 0:13:59.600,0:14:05.920 back in the physical working space again 0:14:03.120,0:14:06.959 it's those informal conversations are at 0:14:05.920,0:14:09.600 risk of then not 0:14:06.959,0:14:11.600 not happening as easily we know the 0:14:09.600,0:14:12.560 comments of the conversations that have 0:14:11.600,0:14:15.199 in the kitchen 0:14:12.560,0:14:16.560 or by the coffee machine or by the water 0:14:15.199,0:14:18.880 bot etc 0:14:16.560,0:14:21.199 those can be some of the most productive 0:14:18.880,0:14:23.600 conversations that you have with your 0:14:21.199,0:14:24.320 with with your team members so it's how 0:14:23.600,0:14:27.519 to almost 0:14:24.320,0:14:28.320 fill that um fulfill that space with how 0:14:27.519,0:14:31.360 you can have 0:14:28.320,0:14:33.199 those conversations 0:14:31.360,0:14:36.160 but obviously facilitating them to make 0:14:33.199,0:14:36.160 sure they do happen 0:14:37.279,0:14:41.600 in terms of uncertain worlds i think 0:14:39.839,0:14:43.680 it's important that we 0:14:41.600,0:14:45.120 just recognize the context of what else 0:14:43.680,0:14:47.760 has been going on 0:14:45.120,0:14:50.079 um in this in this calendar year we know 0:14:47.760,0:14:51.680 there has been a lot of change globally 0:14:50.079,0:14:53.279 uh we know we're now in a position where 0:14:51.680,0:14:54.880 we're going to have some new leaders 0:14:53.279,0:14:56.399 out in the western part of the world 0:14:54.880,0:14:58.399 which is going to make a 0:14:56.399,0:15:00.959 big shift for obviously how the uk moves 0:14:58.399,0:15:04.320 forward in a post-brexit economy 0:15:00.959,0:15:05.360 um but ultimately the impact of black 0:15:04.320,0:15:08.079 lives matter 0:15:05.360,0:15:10.000 um which of course uh the impact of that 0:15:08.079,0:15:12.079 made its way across the pond 0:15:10.000,0:15:13.360 but ultimately before that there has 0:15:12.079,0:15:16.399 been a lot of focus 0:15:13.360,0:15:16.959 in looking at how business owners can 0:15:16.399,0:15:19.839 actually 0:15:16.959,0:15:20.720 harness the best amount of talent for 0:15:19.839,0:15:23.519 their business 0:15:20.720,0:15:25.519 and how they can be aware of the 0:15:23.519,0:15:27.279 importance of managing equality 0:15:25.519,0:15:28.639 diversity and inclusion within their 0:15:27.279,0:15:31.759 teams 0:15:28.639,0:15:33.360 to ensure that everyone is included 0:15:31.759,0:15:35.839 making sure that everyone is engaged and 0:15:33.360,0:15:37.680 motivated and ultimately 0:15:35.839,0:15:39.279 in times of challenge that you were 0:15:37.680,0:15:41.600 taking the best 0:15:39.279,0:15:43.759 people with you in your business to 0:15:41.600,0:15:48.320 ultimately make your business 0:15:43.759,0:15:48.320 productive and successful 0:15:49.440,0:15:53.600 under the inclusivity um umbrella we've 0:15:52.480,0:15:55.759 also got 0:15:53.600,0:15:56.880 obviously gender to consider and i think 0:15:55.759,0:15:58.959 something that 0:15:56.880,0:16:01.040 we all reflect on certainly from 0:15:58.959,0:16:04.480 lockdown 1.0 0:16:01.040,0:16:07.120 uh the impact of um 0:16:04.480,0:16:07.759 child care responsibilities on uh 0:16:07.120,0:16:10.880 working 0:16:07.759,0:16:12.880 working working families and certainly 0:16:10.880,0:16:14.160 what the research has shown is that 0:16:12.880,0:16:16.639 there has been 0:16:14.160,0:16:18.399 um a much higher impact on obviously the 0:16:16.639,0:16:21.120 female gender 0:16:18.399,0:16:22.079 um and with that it's how business 0:16:21.120,0:16:25.279 owners might be 0:16:22.079,0:16:27.519 able to really be aware of that but 0:16:25.279,0:16:29.040 offer support from a gender point of 0:16:27.519,0:16:31.440 view where ultimately 0:16:29.040,0:16:32.240 what's going to happen is that if your 0:16:31.440,0:16:35.680 child 0:16:32.240,0:16:37.759 is sent home from school because someone 0:16:35.680,0:16:40.079 in their bubble has contracted 0:16:37.759,0:16:41.040 covet 19 and you are going to have to 0:16:40.079,0:16:44.079 homeschool them 0:16:41.040,0:16:44.639 obviously in this um current pandemic 0:16:44.079,0:16:46.560 worlds 0:16:44.639,0:16:48.720 ultimately what we're finding is that 0:16:46.560,0:16:51.040 the responsibility of that does fall on 0:16:48.720,0:16:53.279 the female more than the male 0:16:51.040,0:16:54.320 um so there's a wider health and 0:16:53.279,0:16:56.000 well-being 0:16:54.320,0:16:58.000 uh conversation that you need to be 0:16:56.000,0:17:01.199 aware of if you're potentially 0:16:58.000,0:17:04.240 having uh females um in your 0:17:01.199,0:17:06.640 um in your business as well 0:17:04.240,0:17:08.720 obviously this is not exclusive of 0:17:06.640,0:17:12.000 course we know that there's a lot of men 0:17:08.720,0:17:13.679 who do uh support that also we also know 0:17:12.000,0:17:15.679 that there's a lot of single parent 0:17:13.679,0:17:17.199 families which of course men 0:17:15.679,0:17:19.600 are at the helm making all of that 0:17:17.199,0:17:21.839 happen as well but as business owners 0:17:19.600,0:17:23.520 it is really just important that you are 0:17:21.839,0:17:25.120 just mindful of that because these are 0:17:23.520,0:17:28.240 things that didn't really 0:17:25.120,0:17:31.200 um uh play as as as 0:17:28.240,0:17:31.200 important before 0:17:31.280,0:17:34.720 and this this is just obviously just 0:17:32.799,0:17:35.679 further endorses what i've said about 0:17:34.720,0:17:39.039 just the 0:17:35.679,0:17:41.200 the impact of uh children the caring 0:17:39.039,0:17:44.320 responsibilities but also 0:17:41.200,0:17:45.039 uh with the increase of um the more 0:17:44.320,0:17:47.840 mature 0:17:45.039,0:17:48.480 age groups and across our societies 0:17:47.840,0:17:51.200 there is 0:17:48.480,0:17:53.200 much higher responsibility for people 0:17:51.200,0:17:55.679 that are working in your businesses 0:17:53.200,0:17:57.280 um to have caring responsibilities and 0:17:55.679,0:17:59.760 that can be for young people 0:17:57.280,0:18:01.039 minors can also be for majors with 0:17:59.760,0:18:04.240 obviously elderly 0:18:01.039,0:18:07.760 friends relatives and so forth so again 0:18:04.240,0:18:11.039 we have to be much more inclusive from a 0:18:07.760,0:18:14.240 wider society perspective really 0:18:11.039,0:18:16.480 um because um caring 0:18:14.240,0:18:19.600 is not a responsibility that businesses 0:18:16.480,0:18:19.600 do have to be aware of 0:18:20.160,0:18:24.320 so then in conclusion what we're looking 0:18:22.080,0:18:26.000 at then how best to plan when it is 0:18:24.320,0:18:28.160 uncertain 0:18:26.000,0:18:30.240 so ultimately around the productivity 0:18:28.160,0:18:31.280 area it is encouraged that business 0:18:30.240,0:18:32.960 owners 0:18:31.280,0:18:34.880 can monitor and review the working 0:18:32.960,0:18:37.120 arrangements um 0:18:34.880,0:18:38.240 it has been cited that her productivity 0:18:37.120,0:18:40.160 might have increased 0:18:38.240,0:18:41.600 because of less commuting time eating 0:18:40.160,0:18:43.520 into the working day 0:18:41.600,0:18:45.840 innovation has actually decreased and i 0:18:43.520,0:18:49.200 think this the innovation decrease 0:18:45.840,0:18:51.840 is an impact of those um 0:18:49.200,0:18:54.480 uh impulsive conversations taking take 0:18:51.840,0:18:56.080 taking place when people are together 0:18:54.480,0:18:57.600 it is important that obviously you do 0:18:56.080,0:18:59.200 have regular communication and 0:18:57.600,0:19:01.120 well-being check-ins with your staff 0:18:59.200,0:19:02.720 that does have a direct link to your to 0:19:01.120,0:19:04.799 your productivity 0:19:02.720,0:19:06.240 uh within any management role it's so 0:19:04.799,0:19:07.600 important that the manager and the 0:19:06.240,0:19:08.160 leader of the business does have a 0:19:07.600,0:19:10.480 positive 0:19:08.160,0:19:12.240 presence they can see that they are 0:19:10.480,0:19:15.120 there they are available 0:19:12.240,0:19:15.440 um we know there's the old cliche you 0:19:15.120,0:19:18.160 know 0:19:15.440,0:19:19.760 my office door is always open uh but if 0:19:18.160,0:19:20.320 they physically can't see your office 0:19:19.760,0:19:21.840 because 0:19:20.320,0:19:23.600 um people aren't physically working 0:19:21.840,0:19:25.200 together that of course is going to be 0:19:23.600,0:19:26.480 more difficult so really just the 0:19:25.200,0:19:30.320 importance of 0:19:26.480,0:19:32.559 very regular updates and having that um 0:19:30.320,0:19:33.919 uh ability for your staff can actually 0:19:32.559,0:19:37.520 contact you if they 0:19:33.919,0:19:42.320 need to um speak to you at a ad hoc 0:19:37.520,0:19:44.559 way um in terms of employee engagement 0:19:42.320,0:19:45.760 we know that there's a lot of narrative 0:19:44.559,0:19:48.960 out there around 0:19:45.760,0:19:51.440 you know empowerment and delegation 0:19:48.960,0:19:52.799 and uh bringing the young minds and 0:19:51.440,0:19:55.679 fresh minds together 0:19:52.799,0:19:57.039 for uh innovative problem solving and so 0:19:55.679,0:20:00.080 forth and i think 0:19:57.039,0:20:00.960 when it is uncertain um what you have to 0:20:00.080,0:20:03.280 plan for 0:20:00.960,0:20:05.360 you have to plan to be disruptive you 0:20:03.280,0:20:07.919 have to plan to be agile 0:20:05.360,0:20:10.080 and you have to plan to be in a position 0:20:07.919,0:20:12.799 where you've actually got a backup plan 0:20:10.080,0:20:14.559 um this narrative came through very 0:20:12.799,0:20:15.200 strongly yesterday in southern business 0:20:14.559,0:20:17.280 schools 0:20:15.200,0:20:19.679 um launch session that we had with our 0:20:17.280,0:20:22.000 chancellor um theo 0:20:19.679,0:20:23.200 a very experienced businessman and 0:20:22.000,0:20:26.799 certainly 0:20:23.200,0:20:30.080 um innovation and uh agility 0:20:26.799,0:20:33.120 were obviously key elements for success 0:20:30.080,0:20:34.559 um that um people feel he's put forward 0:20:33.120,0:20:37.600 obviously to be able to plan 0:20:34.559,0:20:40.880 and move ahead and adapt in this 0:20:37.600,0:20:42.960 changing world ultimately it's the 0:20:40.880,0:20:45.760 challenge for business owners to be 0:20:42.960,0:20:47.440 the best managers that they can be so to 0:20:45.760,0:20:49.600 be in that position to 0:20:47.440,0:20:50.720 offer support to really share knowledge 0:20:49.600,0:20:52.720 and skills 0:20:50.720,0:20:54.559 and to think about where you can get the 0:20:52.720,0:20:56.480 best people into your business 0:20:54.559,0:20:57.919 to move your business forwards and this 0:20:56.480,0:21:01.280 certainly endorses 0:20:57.919,0:21:02.240 the business case then for equality 0:21:01.280,0:21:05.360 diversity 0:21:02.240,0:21:06.880 and um inclusion because everyone's 0:21:05.360,0:21:08.960 having to dig deep you're having to 0:21:06.880,0:21:11.360 think outside of that box 0:21:08.960,0:21:14.480 when it is uncertain to think how best 0:21:11.360,0:21:17.520 can you actually plan ahead 0:21:14.480,0:21:20.400 um some interesting words here from uh 0:21:17.520,0:21:21.280 lord dibben uh that was shared back in 0:21:20.400,0:21:23.440 august 0:21:21.280,0:21:25.520 with a strap line of we must resist the 0:21:23.440,0:21:27.520 temptation to return to business as 0:21:25.520,0:21:28.400 usual so i think it's that acceptance 0:21:27.520,0:21:31.679 now 0:21:28.400,0:21:35.039 that that has gone we're moving now into 0:21:31.679,0:21:35.600 a very different place some people argue 0:21:35.039,0:21:37.360 well if it 0:21:35.600,0:21:39.280 hadn't been the pandemic it would have 0:21:37.360,0:21:42.240 been you know 0:21:39.280,0:21:43.280 rising uh sea waters and obviously 0:21:42.240,0:21:45.600 flooding of 0:21:43.280,0:21:46.480 x amount of hectares and acres or 0:21:45.600,0:21:48.400 whatever 0:21:46.480,0:21:51.679 i think what the pandemic has shown us 0:21:48.400,0:21:53.919 it's it's given us a really good example 0:21:51.679,0:21:54.799 and a big wake-up call for what other 0:21:53.919,0:21:57.120 shocks 0:21:54.799,0:21:58.240 might actually come our way in this 0:21:57.120,0:21:59.919 coming century 0:21:58.240,0:22:01.520 not sure how many of us might actually 0:21:59.919,0:22:03.840 be around to see it at the 0:22:01.520,0:22:04.880 at the latter part of but we know from a 0:22:03.840,0:22:07.919 wider 0:22:04.880,0:22:09.760 um environmental context we are probably 0:22:07.919,0:22:11.840 going to be looking at a few more 0:22:09.760,0:22:13.440 uh inches of the scale in terms of 0:22:11.840,0:22:14.480 temperature average that's going to have 0:22:13.440,0:22:17.919 a bigger impact 0:22:14.480,0:22:21.280 on our climate and of course 0:22:17.919,0:22:23.200 the impact that businesses may have 0:22:21.280,0:22:24.799 and thrown upon them as a result of that 0:22:23.200,0:22:26.799 climate change we know what's happened 0:22:24.799,0:22:29.440 over the last three to four years with 0:22:26.799,0:22:31.120 flash flooding for example up and down 0:22:29.440,0:22:31.679 the country and responses that have to 0:22:31.120,0:22:34.080 be made 0:22:31.679,0:22:36.000 in part of that so you can see the 0:22:34.080,0:22:37.840 narrative here is it's being prepared 0:22:36.000,0:22:40.159 for shock we can't control it we know 0:22:37.840,0:22:43.440 what might happen 0:22:40.159,0:22:46.080 being resilient moving away from 0:22:43.440,0:22:48.159 not obviously being open and vulnerable 0:22:46.080,0:22:51.039 and i think a lot of businesses now 0:22:48.159,0:22:52.400 have built access to to cloud so that 0:22:51.039,0:22:55.440 they can work anywhere 0:22:52.400,0:22:57.200 they've also built access to um 0:22:55.440,0:22:59.039 online selling if they didn't have that 0:22:57.200,0:23:00.400 before so that their products can still 0:22:59.039,0:23:01.360 get to the customers they don't 0:23:00.400,0:23:03.120 physically 0:23:01.360,0:23:04.880 have to come over the doorstep of their 0:23:03.120,0:23:07.520 business and 0:23:04.880,0:23:08.640 but in terms of the mantra that you are 0:23:07.520,0:23:10.159 hearing a lot through our government 0:23:08.640,0:23:12.720 it's this building back 0:23:10.159,0:23:14.400 better and it's almost building back to 0:23:12.720,0:23:16.640 be more stronger 0:23:14.400,0:23:18.880 building strong leadership mindsets in 0:23:16.640,0:23:19.919 there to lead people forward when we 0:23:18.880,0:23:23.280 know the times 0:23:19.919,0:23:27.360 are actually going to be challenging 0:23:23.280,0:23:29.679 um so as we're saying amid the upheaval 0:23:27.360,0:23:32.080 it has become evident that planning for 0:23:29.679,0:23:34.880 good management practice 0:23:32.080,0:23:36.880 is actually a good way to plan ahead for 0:23:34.880,0:23:39.440 uncertain times and of course 0:23:36.880,0:23:40.080 i'm speaking here in my representative 0:23:39.440,0:23:41.760 role 0:23:40.080,0:23:44.480 from the charter management institute 0:23:41.760,0:23:47.520 and actually embedding the importance 0:23:44.480,0:23:49.360 of strong values driven management 0:23:47.520,0:23:50.080 practice because that cited as being the 0:23:49.360,0:23:52.080 sustainable 0:23:50.080,0:23:54.240 way forward that will have the positive 0:23:52.080,0:23:56.640 impact on your productivity 0:23:54.240,0:23:57.919 your employee well-being and help you 0:23:56.640,0:24:01.279 design a workplace 0:23:57.919,0:24:03.279 that can be more to the tune 0:24:22.640,0:24:29.279 of just short of 11 million um 0:24:25.919,0:24:30.320 2 000 places on workshops that have been 0:24:29.279,0:24:32.080 running from 0:24:30.320,0:24:33.840 october of this year and they will run 0:24:32.080,0:24:37.200 right through to 0:24:33.840,0:24:40.400 the end of march next next year um 0:24:37.200,0:24:42.559 these are eight week short 0:24:40.400,0:24:43.520 short courses that are fully facilitated 0:24:42.559,0:24:46.159 online 0:24:43.520,0:24:48.640 um with the output of businesses 0:24:46.159,0:24:50.960 developing an action plan 0:24:48.640,0:24:52.000 to drive resilience productivity and 0:24:50.960,0:24:55.039 growth 0:24:52.000,0:24:57.520 within the business they are 100 funded 0:24:55.039,0:24:59.440 um sadly social enterprises and 0:24:57.520,0:25:01.120 charities don't qualify 0:24:59.440,0:25:03.279 for this funded opportunity from the 0:25:01.120,0:25:04.000 government uh but if you do have a 0:25:03.279,0:25:06.880 turnover 0:25:04.000,0:25:08.960 turnover of over a hundred thousand and 0:25:06.880,0:25:10.880 employ five or more people 0:25:08.960,0:25:12.400 and you should qualify to be into your 0:25:18.559,0:25:21.760 business 0:25:19.440,0:25:24.080 really re review it against some of 0:25:21.760,0:25:27.200 these areas that we have discussed 0:25:24.080,0:25:29.919 in this presentation today um with you 0:25:27.200,0:25:31.919 then to putting together an action plan 0:25:29.919,0:25:33.840 um for how to actually drive your 0:25:31.919,0:25:35.679 business forwards 0:25:33.840,0:25:38.240 what i will say that has been a really 0:25:35.679,0:25:40.159 positive impact of these sessions we've 0:25:38.240,0:25:43.440 got 60 small businesses 0:25:40.159,0:25:44.960 um nearing the end of this um program 0:25:43.440,0:25:47.039 already in soland 0:25:44.960,0:25:48.400 it's the ability to come together as a 0:25:47.039,0:25:50.320 community 0:25:48.400,0:25:53.200 that has been really positive the 0:25:50.320,0:25:55.600 stories that the businesses have shared 0:25:53.200,0:25:56.320 the learning from each other and i think 0:25:55.600,0:25:59.279 just 0:25:56.320,0:26:00.799 when times are uncertain it's nice to 0:25:59.279,0:26:03.440 actually be in a body 0:26:00.799,0:26:05.200 of other like-minded people who are 0:26:03.440,0:26:06.080 running businesses to really share your 0:26:05.200,0:26:09.200 stories 0:26:06.080,0:26:12.799 and actually learn from 0:26:09.200,0:26:15.840 so that concludes my session um i will 0:26:12.799,0:26:18.400 hand over now to um matt jeffrey and as 0:26:15.840,0:26:22.240 i understand that we'll take questions 0:26:18.400,0:26:24.559 um at the end so i'm going to stop 0:26:22.240,0:26:25.520 sharing my 0:27:04.480,0:27:06.240 following on from what julian said about 0:27:05.919,0:27:09.679 the 0:27:06.240,0:27:11.279 the um leadership program uh we did a 0:27:09.679,0:27:12.880 growth accelerator program with the 0:27:11.279,0:27:15.120 solar lep uh 0:27:12.880,0:27:16.559 earlier during the actual pandemic and 0:27:15.120,0:27:19.039 that actually proved to be 0:27:16.559,0:27:20.159 really what we've done over the 0:27:48.000,0:27:51.120 last 0:27:48.640,0:27:52.799 uh few months during this pandemic um 0:27:51.120,0:27:55.279 but before i do that i'd just like to 0:27:52.799,0:27:55.919 do a little bit of an introduction um 0:27:55.279,0:27:58.399 about 0:27:55.919,0:27:59.120 who we are so uh we are bright bulb 0:27:58.399,0:28:01.279 design here at bright 0:28:49.200,0:28:53.279 bulb 0:28:50.640,0:28:54.320 so over the past six years uh also we've 0:28:53.279,0:28:56.320 been growing 0:28:54.320,0:28:57.360 uh doubling year on year expanding the 0:28:56.320,0:28:59.840 team 0:28:57.360,0:29:02.080 with now a team of 10 creative 0:28:59.840,0:29:04.799 individuals or bright sparks 0:29:02.080,0:29:06.880 as i like to call them we've continued 0:29:04.799,0:29:09.279 to work with some incredible clients 0:29:06.880,0:29:10.240 across the country and we are proud to 0:29:09.279,0:29:12.960 help these 0:29:10.240,0:29:14.480 clients on a daily basis we also 0:29:12.960,0:29:14.960 continue to work local businesses in the 0:29:14.480,0:29:17.120 south 0:29:14.960,0:29:18.640 uh helping them progress their marketing 0:29:17.120,0:29:20.159 design and digital presence 0:29:18.640,0:29:21.570 and are proud of what we can bring to 0:29:20.159,0:29:23.919 the table in that respect 0:29:21.570,0:29:27.919 [Applause] 0:29:23.919,0:29:29.600 so as a very short summary on who i am 0:29:27.919,0:29:31.120 and hopefully gives you a bit of an idea 0:29:29.600,0:29:34.080 of the size of the business 0:29:31.120,0:29:35.279 where we're from um hopefully people can 0:29:34.080,0:29:37.840 relate to that 0:29:35.279,0:29:38.880 um people that are on this this video 0:29:37.840,0:29:41.919 call 0:29:38.880,0:29:44.960 so of course this year as has been 0:29:41.919,0:29:46.480 uh pretty much impacted everybody in 0:29:44.960,0:29:49.520 some way shape or form 0:29:46.480,0:29:52.640 um the chronovirus has not exactly 0:29:49.520,0:29:56.640 helped uh anything in terms of business 0:29:52.640,0:29:59.120 um so how have we adapted at brightball 0:29:56.640,0:30:01.039 and to what's been happening so this is 0:29:59.120,0:30:04.399 what i'd like to take you through 0:30:01.039,0:30:06.240 so first let me tell you back in march 0:30:04.399,0:30:08.799 uh and nowhere to valy me 0:30:06.240,0:30:09.919 and fee were holding hands um as we 0:30:08.799,0:30:11.679 watched rishi sinak 0:30:09.919,0:30:14.399 uh tell us how he was going to help 0:30:11.679,0:30:16.480 businesses with the furlough scheme 0:30:14.399,0:30:18.480 uh at that time in all honesty we did 0:30:16.480,0:30:21.120 not know what to expect 0:30:18.480,0:30:22.320 from the coming year but did did stream 0:30:21.120,0:30:25.679 down our faces 0:30:22.320,0:30:28.080 as we knew that scheme um 0:30:25.679,0:30:28.720 was gonna help our staff quite frankly 0:30:28.080,0:30:30.880 and 0:30:28.720,0:30:32.000 we would be okay uh if our staff are 0:30:30.880,0:30:34.960 gonna be okay 0:30:32.000,0:30:35.600 then the business would be okay um we 0:30:34.960,0:30:38.480 believe this 0:30:35.600,0:30:40.320 our staff are our biggest asset uh we 0:30:38.480,0:30:41.919 believe it to be honest any business 0:30:40.320,0:30:43.440 staff is the biggest asset in any 0:30:41.919,0:30:45.279 business um 0:30:43.440,0:30:46.640 and therefore we had faith that if our 0:30:45.279,0:30:49.279 staff would be okay that the business 0:30:46.640,0:30:49.279 would be okay 0:30:49.520,0:30:53.120 from there we didn't sit with our head 0:30:51.120,0:30:54.960 in that in the sand i mean 0:30:53.120,0:30:56.720 instead we sort of formulated a plan for 0:30:54.960,0:30:58.000 what we had to do to keep the business 0:30:56.720,0:30:59.679 ticking over 0:30:58.000,0:31:02.159 uh we looked at what had started to 0:30:59.679,0:31:04.640 happen uh there were no exhibitions 0:31:02.159,0:31:06.480 uh no handing out leaflets no business 0:31:04.640,0:31:08.960 cards exchanged 0:31:06.480,0:31:09.919 so we could see that the need for design 0:31:08.960,0:31:12.399 was going to 0:31:09.919,0:31:12.960 be less so um than we would normally 0:31:12.399,0:31:15.279 expect 0:31:12.960,0:31:17.120 in a normal year so then we looked at 0:31:15.279,0:31:21.279 the other side of the business 0:31:17.120,0:31:23.760 in terms of web and digital um i mean 0:31:21.279,0:31:24.559 we could see that no shops could open 0:31:23.760,0:31:26.640 their doors 0:31:24.559,0:31:28.159 restaurants were shut uh and the high 0:31:26.640,0:31:30.559 street was struggling 0:31:28.159,0:31:32.159 so we put our efforts into figuring out 0:31:30.559,0:31:34.960 how we can help these 0:31:32.159,0:31:36.399 businesses hit by hardship with not much 0:31:34.960,0:31:39.760 to spend but a need 0:31:36.399,0:31:41.120 to be online so we saw that 0:31:39.760,0:31:42.880 that there was a lot of grant funding 0:31:41.120,0:31:44.240 available for businesses from places 0:31:42.880,0:31:46.159 like the silent lep 0:31:44.240,0:31:47.440 natural enterprises there is rural 0:31:46.159,0:31:49.679 grants 0:31:47.440,0:31:51.279 around and there still is a lot of 0:31:49.679,0:31:54.720 grants and funding around 0:31:51.279,0:31:56.720 as we speak um specific funds made 0:31:54.720,0:31:59.360 available due to this crisis 0:31:56.720,0:32:01.279 so we decided to create a scheme that 0:31:59.360,0:32:02.320 helped businesses with the grant funding 0:32:01.279,0:32:05.120 process called 0:32:02.320,0:32:05.840 adapt uk a scheme that is actually still 0:32:05.120,0:32:08.240 running 0:32:05.840,0:32:10.159 we helped businesses with creating their 0:32:08.240,0:32:11.279 story their need for the grant to pivot 0:32:10.159,0:32:14.000 their business 0:32:11.279,0:32:15.760 with a new digital digital presence with 0:32:14.000,0:32:17.840 the grant fund that we knew that there 0:32:15.760,0:32:19.440 could be money towards e-commerce adding 0:32:17.840,0:32:22.159 a potential life-saving 0:32:19.440,0:32:22.720 revenue stream to a business this in 0:32:22.159,0:32:25.120 turn 0:32:22.720,0:32:26.880 meant that we could be commissioned to 0:32:25.120,0:32:29.919 do the work to convert 0:32:26.880,0:32:31.600 businesses websites to e-commerce stores 0:32:29.919,0:32:33.600 which in turn created a revenue stream 0:32:31.600,0:32:36.000 for us in a time when business 0:32:33.600,0:32:39.039 was struggling there was not money being 0:32:36.000,0:32:42.960 thrown around like left right and center 0:32:39.039,0:32:45.120 the grant i mean this is a great story 0:32:42.960,0:32:46.399 really in that um we helped a lot of 0:32:45.120,0:32:50.240 businesses get online 0:32:46.399,0:32:51.679 and um be able to sell their wares 0:32:50.240,0:32:53.200 when they can't open their doors and 0:32:51.679,0:32:54.799 they and a lot of these businesses have 0:32:53.200,0:32:57.360 benefited massively 0:32:54.799,0:32:59.360 um one business sold through invention 0:32:57.360,0:33:01.120 of i've never used online 0:32:59.360,0:33:02.480 um for anything other than a basic 0:33:01.120,0:33:04.320 holding page 0:33:02.480,0:33:06.159 uh within three months of opening their 0:33:04.320,0:33:08.480 ecommerce store they had sales of 0:33:06.159,0:33:09.600 over 25 000 pounds running through that 0:33:08.480,0:33:12.880 that store 0:33:09.600,0:33:16.399 um they got 50 grant funded 0:33:12.880,0:33:19.600 um so half of our costs were 0:33:16.399,0:33:23.039 paid for by um rural 0:33:19.600,0:33:25.039 grant fund um for us that was huge um 0:33:23.039,0:33:27.120 we had people asking for ordering 0:33:25.039,0:33:29.440 systems for take aways 0:33:27.120,0:33:30.880 booking systems for single person shop 0:33:29.440,0:33:33.760 visits um 0:33:30.880,0:33:35.440 ordering paint for your own pottery kits 0:33:33.760,0:33:37.840 for pottery cafes that couldn't have 0:33:35.440,0:33:39.200 people painting in the cafes in a normal 0:33:37.840,0:33:41.279 way 0:33:39.200,0:33:43.440 so we created some quite complex 0:33:41.279,0:33:45.760 ordering systems for various uses 0:33:43.440,0:33:48.000 and all partly funded by the grant 0:33:45.760,0:33:51.679 schemes available which meant that 0:33:48.000,0:33:54.000 those businesses could get online and 0:33:51.679,0:33:55.360 i have at half the normal cost that it 0:33:54.000,0:33:57.679 would normally cost 0:33:55.360,0:33:58.960 um and it also gave us a revenue stream 0:33:57.679,0:34:02.799 so it actually worked 0:33:58.960,0:34:03.600 for everybody um it's that sort of quick 0:34:02.799,0:34:06.320 thinking 0:34:03.600,0:34:08.079 that um helped us in terms of holding up 0:34:06.320,0:34:13.599 our design side of the business 0:34:08.079,0:34:13.599 um by creating more um digital need 0:34:16.399,0:34:20.720 it's about looking for the opportunity 0:34:18.800,0:34:23.599 in any situation 0:34:20.720,0:34:24.960 in times of recession financial collapse 0:34:23.599,0:34:26.720 or coronavirus there 0:34:24.960,0:34:28.800 are always opportunities if you look for 0:34:26.720,0:34:32.240 them if you can't open your 0:34:28.800,0:34:33.919 restaurant and start taking takeaways 0:34:32.240,0:34:36.079 if you are a small shop and can't adhere 0:34:33.919,0:34:36.639 to social distancing let people book a 0:34:36.079,0:34:39.839 line 0:34:36.639,0:34:41.760 to visit the store one at a time we also 0:34:39.839,0:34:44.560 realized as we started to 0:34:41.760,0:34:45.679 come out a lot on lock round one that 0:34:44.560,0:34:48.480 businesses would 0:34:45.679,0:34:50.560 be looking to become clover secure 0:34:48.480,0:34:52.079 within this everyone needs signage floor 0:34:50.560,0:34:52.639 stickers and various elements for their 0:34:52.079,0:34:55.040 business 0:34:52.639,0:34:57.200 so that they can be covered secure and 0:34:55.040,0:35:01.040 continue to work in a safe environment 0:34:57.200,0:35:03.520 so again we looked at how we could 0:35:01.040,0:35:04.400 help with custom graphics and affordable 0:35:03.520,0:35:06.480 printing 0:35:04.400,0:35:08.720 a small boost for a very specific amount 0:35:06.480,0:35:11.359 of time and a targeted market 0:35:08.720,0:35:12.720 but again a boost to sales and helping 0:35:11.359,0:35:17.839 the design side of the business with 0:35:12.720,0:35:17.839 some well-needed pipeline 0:35:18.400,0:35:22.640 so it's all about finding the need for 0:35:20.960,0:35:24.400 the business or consumer and trying to 0:35:22.640,0:35:27.440 fill that need in a way that works 0:35:24.400,0:35:28.240 for both parties think ahead to what 0:35:27.440,0:35:30.560 might happen 0:35:28.240,0:35:31.839 as this next lockdown list what will 0:35:30.560,0:35:34.240 people need now 0:35:31.839,0:35:36.400 more than ever how can you change your 0:35:34.240,0:35:38.079 business to accommodate them 0:35:36.400,0:35:40.400 more recently we could see that with 0:35:38.079,0:35:42.240 more digital ads and content creation 0:35:40.400,0:35:44.960 plus more need for businesses 0:35:42.240,0:35:46.079 uh website to have really engaging 0:35:44.960,0:35:49.200 content 0:35:46.079,0:35:51.119 that video uh was coming to the 0:35:49.200,0:35:52.960 to the fray and that is another thing 0:35:51.119,0:35:54.160 that we could look at so thanks to a 0:35:52.960,0:35:56.480 post that i noticed on 0:35:54.160,0:35:59.119 linkedin from portsmouth university 0:35:56.480,0:35:59.839 about santander covid 19 small business 0:35:59.119,0:36:01.520 grant 0:35:59.839,0:36:03.359 i thought that we could perhaps apply 0:36:01.520,0:36:03.760 for this grant to pivot our business in 0:36:03.359,0:36:05.920 the 0:36:03.760,0:36:06.960 direction of video so we applied for the 0:36:05.920,0:36:09.440 grant funding 0:36:06.960,0:36:11.119 and we're successful and this happened 0:36:09.440,0:36:12.880 simply because i was keeping an eye out 0:36:11.119,0:36:15.599 on social media 0:36:12.880,0:36:17.040 and by chance i came across this post it 0:36:15.599,0:36:18.320 is always important to keep up to date 0:36:17.040,0:36:19.920 with what's on offer 0:36:18.320,0:36:21.599 what can help your business and the 0:36:19.920,0:36:24.480 opportunities that may 0:36:21.599,0:36:25.359 arise santander accepted that grant and 0:36:24.480,0:36:27.119 we are looking 0:36:25.359,0:36:28.880 now at the opportunities to enhance our 0:36:27.119,0:36:30.880 video service for the business 0:36:28.880,0:36:32.480 and i think it is important to note that 0:36:30.880,0:36:34.880 people shouldn't be 0:36:32.480,0:36:36.640 uh worried about asking for help in 0:36:34.880,0:36:38.960 those situations i mean 0:36:36.640,0:36:40.400 that there's there are things out there 0:36:38.960,0:36:42.800 that can be really useful 0:36:40.400,0:36:44.480 it can be mentorship it can be the 0:36:42.800,0:36:47.599 programs that we've discussed 0:36:44.480,0:36:49.359 um so the solar let programs and the 0:36:47.599,0:36:51.440 leadership programs it can be grant 0:36:49.359,0:36:53.119 funding that can actually add a boost to 0:36:51.440,0:36:55.119 a certain element of your business 0:36:53.119,0:36:56.880 and i think that's really important to 0:36:55.119,0:36:59.280 not be 0:36:56.880,0:37:00.720 scared or too proud to say actually i 0:36:59.280,0:37:02.640 could do a bit of help here a bit of 0:37:00.720,0:37:07.040 help there or i need some advice 0:37:02.640,0:37:09.440 um so what else did we look at um 0:37:07.040,0:37:10.880 another sort of pointer i suppose that 0:37:09.440,0:37:12.400 we we took away 0:37:10.880,0:37:14.640 and from the situation is we looked at 0:37:12.400,0:37:18.160 our staff and their current job roles 0:37:14.640,0:37:18.640 and for how can we adapt what they are 0:37:18.160,0:37:21.440 doing 0:37:18.640,0:37:22.640 to help generate more work um if they 0:37:21.440,0:37:23.920 have less to do in one area of the 0:37:22.640,0:37:25.599 business such as the design 0:37:23.920,0:37:26.960 side then what could they be doing in 0:37:25.599,0:37:29.680 another area 0:37:26.960,0:37:30.880 so one of our designers vicky um we 0:37:29.680,0:37:33.920 moved into an updated 0:37:30.880,0:37:35.520 job role of social media management 0:37:33.920,0:37:37.200 she was able to design posts very easily 0:37:35.520,0:37:39.280 being a designer um 0:37:37.200,0:37:41.200 as she had all those skills but just 0:37:39.280,0:37:43.440 needed to learn about copywriting and 0:37:41.200,0:37:45.680 creating engaging content 0:37:43.440,0:37:47.040 so we gave her the time to create our 0:37:45.680,0:37:50.160 social calendars 0:37:47.040,0:37:53.040 schedule posts and design posts 0:37:50.160,0:37:53.680 and with a plan further take on more of 0:37:53.040,0:37:55.520 these 0:37:53.680,0:37:56.720 jobs potentially for our clients in the 0:37:55.520,0:37:58.800 future 0:37:56.720,0:38:00.560 after months of training she is now 0:37:58.800,0:38:02.160 great at creating engaging posts 0:38:00.560,0:38:04.800 and social marketing plans for 0:38:02.160,0:38:05.440 businesses and this helps us in that we 0:38:04.800,0:38:07.599 have since 0:38:05.440,0:38:09.520 been contacted our businesses to help 0:38:07.599,0:38:10.960 them with their social media 0:38:09.520,0:38:12.400 again another revenue stream that we 0:38:10.960,0:38:13.520 have not really taken this full 0:38:12.400,0:38:15.520 advantage of 0:38:13.520,0:38:17.200 in the past but the current situation 0:38:15.520,0:38:19.839 made us look at ourselves 0:38:17.200,0:38:20.560 and say yes we can do this we've got the 0:38:19.839,0:38:22.640 skills 0:38:20.560,0:38:24.240 we just need to train or adapt that 0:38:22.640,0:38:27.359 particular position 0:38:24.240,0:38:28.160 and now we've got an extra an extra bow 0:38:27.359,0:38:32.960 to our 0:38:28.160,0:38:36.560 to our string string to our versions 0:38:32.960,0:38:39.359 my next point here is this um and 0:38:36.560,0:38:40.480 in times of crisis you need to prepare 0:38:39.359,0:38:42.320 for a loss 0:38:40.480,0:38:43.920 and prepare for how you recover from 0:38:42.320,0:38:45.599 that loss 0:38:43.920,0:38:47.920 if you're prepared to potentially lose 0:38:45.599,0:38:48.720 money but have a foresight to put credit 0:38:47.920,0:38:50.960 in place 0:38:48.720,0:38:51.920 or some sort of funding or something 0:38:50.960,0:38:54.000 available to you 0:38:51.920,0:38:55.200 for your recovery plan then you go into 0:38:54.000,0:38:57.839 that loss knowing that you have 0:38:55.200,0:38:59.200 at least the light and hope at the end 0:38:57.839,0:39:02.480 of the tunnel 0:38:59.200,0:39:04.720 for our business um in december 0:39:02.480,0:39:06.079 is always a difficult moment for us uh 0:39:04.720,0:39:06.720 all our staff are on holiday for the 0:39:06.079,0:39:08.640 last 0:39:06.720,0:39:10.160 two weeks of the month so you imagine 0:39:08.640,0:39:13.280 having eight or so 0:39:10.160,0:39:14.720 men eight ten members of staff just um 0:39:13.280,0:39:16.480 disappearing for the last two weeks at 0:39:14.720,0:39:19.920 the moment it's not exactly very helpful 0:39:16.480,0:39:21.440 in terms of um productivity most of our 0:39:19.920,0:39:23.599 christmas campaigns are already live by 0:39:21.440,0:39:25.040 the beginning of the december 0:39:23.599,0:39:27.119 and businesses tend to relax in the 0:39:25.040,0:39:29.280 winter break not committing 0:39:27.119,0:39:30.400 until after christmas to a big website 0:39:29.280,0:39:32.240 redesign or 0:39:30.400,0:39:34.079 new marketing campaign until they get 0:39:32.240,0:39:35.680 new budgets in place 0:39:34.079,0:39:37.200 so we are always prepared to have a bad 0:39:35.680,0:39:39.200 december um 0:39:37.200,0:39:40.400 in times like these that could be even 0:39:39.200,0:39:42.560 worse than usual 0:39:40.400,0:39:44.720 um if you don't have a loss then that's 0:39:42.560,0:39:47.040 great pat on the back all round 0:39:44.720,0:39:48.880 um if you do have lost then we know we 0:39:47.040,0:39:49.520 have the money the funds the credit in 0:39:48.880,0:39:51.760 place 0:39:49.520,0:39:53.040 are in a good position whilst we recover 0:39:51.760,0:39:57.280 and plan to hit the ground running in 0:39:53.040,0:40:00.160 early january so another point 0:39:57.280,0:40:01.440 that i'd uh like to just touch on and 0:40:00.160,0:40:05.040 it's kind of the last thing i've 0:40:01.440,0:40:06.560 touched on here today um is 0:40:05.040,0:40:09.040 another thing that we did during 0:40:06.560,0:40:11.680 lockdown one um 0:40:09.040,0:40:12.240 which has helped us and has helped many 0:40:11.680,0:40:14.480 others 0:40:12.240,0:40:15.440 actually in this uncertain time and that 0:40:14.480,0:40:18.640 is to 0:40:15.440,0:40:19.520 create an information uh booklet uh fee 0:40:18.640,0:40:22.880 put together 0:40:19.520,0:40:25.839 on mental health um during just before 0:40:22.880,0:40:26.800 lockdown actually became my wife and and 0:40:25.839,0:40:29.839 co-director 0:40:26.800,0:40:32.400 uh became a mental house first aider 0:40:29.839,0:40:34.319 and if if ever there was an opportunity 0:40:32.400,0:40:36.880 to use her new skills it was during 0:40:34.319,0:40:39.119 lockdown one now she created a document 0:40:36.880,0:40:39.520 on what people and businesses can do to 0:40:39.119,0:40:41.680 help 0:40:39.520,0:40:43.440 their mental health uh that leaflet was 0:40:41.680,0:40:44.880 actually so successful 0:40:43.440,0:40:47.200 in helping people to actually visit 0:40:44.880,0:40:47.920 alawite have recently commissioned us to 0:40:47.200,0:40:49.839 do a new 0:40:47.920,0:40:51.359 one for the tourism and hospitality 0:40:49.839,0:40:52.960 sector here on the island 0:40:51.359,0:40:55.040 and who have obviously suffered 0:40:52.960,0:40:57.520 massively through the pandemic 0:40:55.040,0:41:00.319 um it is great that it's helped so many 0:40:57.520,0:41:03.359 businesses it's also important 0:41:00.319,0:41:04.240 it's helped all of our staff which have 0:41:03.359,0:41:07.119 gained something 0:41:04.240,0:41:08.720 good tips and insightful mental on what 0:41:07.119,0:41:11.280 mental health is all about 0:41:08.720,0:41:13.440 um during lockdown one we had evenings 0:41:11.280,0:41:15.599 where the team got together on zoom 0:41:13.440,0:41:16.560 play games remotely and sent our staff 0:41:15.599,0:41:18.319 goody parcels 0:41:16.560,0:41:20.079 to let them know that we were thinking 0:41:18.319,0:41:21.839 of them 0:41:20.079,0:41:23.119 this all helps them you get through the 0:41:21.839,0:41:25.440 situation together 0:41:23.119,0:41:27.040 as a team and we had a member of staff 0:41:25.440,0:41:30.000 who lived in a flat on their own 0:41:27.040,0:41:31.359 no garden it's basically told to stay in 0:41:30.000,0:41:33.680 um first four months 0:41:31.359,0:41:34.720 not even allowed to see their family and 0:41:33.680,0:41:37.119 we noticed that he was 0:41:34.720,0:41:38.960 quite frankly fed up with the situation 0:41:37.119,0:41:39.680 and we took note and tried to do what we 0:41:38.960,0:41:42.800 could to help 0:41:39.680,0:41:43.440 through those you know online sessions 0:41:42.800,0:41:46.839 and 0:41:43.440,0:41:48.720 and chats and and just talking and 0:41:46.839,0:41:49.920 communication it's important that you 0:41:48.720,0:41:52.000 take note of your 0:41:49.920,0:41:54.000 staff and their feelings and do whatever 0:41:52.000,0:41:56.319 you can and remembering that 0:41:54.000,0:41:58.079 yes you are the owner of the business 0:41:56.319,0:41:59.280 and yes the weight of the world may seem 0:41:58.079,0:42:01.280 to be upon 0:41:59.280,0:42:02.319 uh you but it's your staff to hold that 0:42:01.280,0:42:04.800 business up 0:42:02.319,0:42:05.760 on a daily basis they have family 0:42:04.800,0:42:07.839 families they have 0:42:05.760,0:42:09.040 money troubles they have personal issues 0:42:07.839,0:42:11.920 and help your staff 0:42:09.040,0:42:12.720 and the reward will be great in what 0:42:11.920,0:42:14.160 they 0:42:12.720,0:42:15.760 think of you and how they support your 0:42:14.160,0:42:17.920 business going forward 0:42:15.760,0:42:20.079 i'm proud of our team um they've helped 0:42:17.920,0:42:23.119 write your plan adapt and grow and 0:42:20.079,0:42:26.079 certainly in this uncertain time so 0:42:23.119,0:42:27.040 just a summary of tips from me uh that i 0:42:26.079,0:42:29.520 hope will 0:42:27.040,0:42:31.440 help everybody here today number one 0:42:29.520,0:42:33.280 look for the opportunities your business 0:42:31.440,0:42:35.599 how can you adapt to service to 0:42:33.280,0:42:37.520 accommodate to the new norm 0:42:35.599,0:42:39.520 to see what grants are available for 0:42:37.520,0:42:40.880 your business you may be surprised at 0:42:39.520,0:42:42.839 what's actually available 0:42:40.880,0:42:44.560 um to you once you look into that a bit 0:42:42.839,0:42:46.480 further 0:42:44.560,0:42:48.400 think how you can change employees job 0:42:46.480,0:42:52.079 roles to become more productive 0:42:48.400,0:42:54.160 or add a new service prepare for a loss 0:42:52.079,0:42:56.480 make sure you have credit available in 0:42:54.160,0:42:58.400 the business in case the worst happens 0:42:56.480,0:43:00.400 and and lastly look after your staff's 0:42:58.400,0:43:02.160 mental health they are your most 0:43:00.400,0:43:02.880 important assets and are the ones most 0:43:02.160,0:43:04.720 likely 0:43:02.880,0:43:06.000 to help you recover from that from the 0:43:04.720,0:43:08.240 situation 0:43:06.000,0:43:10.400 uh so that's it from me hopefully that's 0:43:08.240,0:43:14.000 been informative and useful 0:43:10.400,0:43:15.760 and um yeah usual tips for 0:43:14.000,0:43:17.359 for other small businesses and who can 0:43:15.760,0:43:17.760 hopefully relate to what i'm talking 0:43:17.359,0:43:20.800 through 0:43:17.760,0:43:24.079 but i will now pass it back to uh 0:43:20.800,0:43:25.920 ross i believe and 0:43:24.079,0:43:27.280 thanks very much matt that's absolutely 0:43:25.920,0:43:29.359 brilliant insights from 0:43:27.280,0:43:31.440 from from the if you like the front line 0:43:29.359,0:43:33.839 of of businesses particularly as small 0:43:31.440,0:43:37.119 business managing with all of the issues 0:43:33.839,0:43:39.920 um if i could invite jillian please 0:43:37.119,0:43:41.200 and uh and matt then i think we're 0:43:39.920,0:43:44.800 moving into the q and a 0:43:41.200,0:43:46.319 session and uh as i said before i've got 0:43:44.800,0:43:48.160 i've got the chat open and i'd be 0:43:46.319,0:43:50.720 delighted if you could put 0:43:48.160,0:43:52.319 your questions to to soon matt and 0:43:50.720,0:43:53.119 jillian and i i'll ensure that they're 0:43:52.319,0:43:54.640 asked 0:43:53.119,0:43:56.160 i do have a few other questions 0:43:54.640,0:43:58.400 available as well so 0:43:56.160,0:44:00.160 i'm sure that we will keep keep chatting 0:43:58.400,0:44:03.280 for the next 25 minutes or so 0:44:00.160,0:44:04.880 um but please do put your specific 0:44:03.280,0:44:07.599 questions relating to your ex 0:44:04.880,0:44:08.000 specific experiences and businesses into 0:44:07.599,0:44:11.520 the chat 0:44:08.000,0:44:14.800 and i'll pick them up so let's kick off 0:44:11.520,0:44:17.359 um firstly um liam has 0:44:14.800,0:44:18.640 has asked a question and i i think we'll 0:44:17.359,0:44:21.280 hear from both it says 0:44:18.640,0:44:23.920 if home working and hybrid virtual 0:44:21.280,0:44:26.640 working continues post covid 0:44:23.920,0:44:27.359 how can businesses adapt to lower 0:44:26.640,0:44:29.440 commuter 0:44:27.359,0:44:30.400 footfall and that's obviously a very 0:44:29.440,0:44:32.480 important 0:44:30.400,0:44:34.240 key thing for for many businesses who've 0:44:32.480,0:44:36.480 placed their businesses in areas 0:44:34.240,0:44:38.000 that rely on commuter football but i 0:44:36.480,0:44:39.040 think that's a it probably goes wider 0:44:38.000,0:44:40.640 than that 0:44:39.040,0:44:42.160 so let's kick off jillian what do you 0:44:40.640,0:44:44.000 think 0:44:42.160,0:44:46.640 yes ross thank you and thank you liam 0:44:44.000,0:44:47.760 for such a good question to get us going 0:44:46.640,0:44:50.720 this morning 0:44:47.760,0:44:51.280 um so i think the response to this we've 0:44:50.720,0:44:53.599 had 0:44:51.280,0:44:55.680 really good examples shared with what 0:44:53.599,0:44:57.200 matt matt jeffrey has shared and how his 0:44:55.680,0:45:00.000 business has 0:44:57.200,0:45:00.720 been able to pivot in the response to 0:45:00.000,0:45:03.200 the 0:45:00.720,0:45:04.079 opportunities and demands that have came 0:45:03.200,0:45:07.119 as a result 0:45:04.079,0:45:08.560 of um covid who would have thought he 0:45:07.119,0:45:10.240 would have been printing out lots of 0:45:08.560,0:45:13.200 circular stand here 0:45:10.240,0:45:15.760 stickers uh to go out up and up and down 0:45:13.200,0:45:18.319 the country and i think really from that 0:45:15.760,0:45:20.240 um comes a really good example of how 0:45:18.319,0:45:23.599 businesses have to look 0:45:20.240,0:45:25.839 broader and wider so ultimately 0:45:23.599,0:45:28.400 if there is less footfall on the high 0:45:25.839,0:45:30.319 street and your business model was 0:45:28.400,0:45:32.079 built around your customers mostly 0:45:30.319,0:45:34.960 coming from that place 0:45:32.079,0:45:36.079 where it's looking then okay what other 0:45:34.960,0:45:38.640 customers 0:45:36.079,0:45:39.680 can you attract or how else can you 0:45:38.640,0:45:42.800 service 0:45:39.680,0:45:45.599 um that group of customer 0:45:42.800,0:45:46.079 or ultimately what other routes can your 0:45:45.599,0:45:49.920 business 0:45:46.079,0:45:52.400 go down so i think it's a time to really 0:45:49.920,0:45:53.680 reflect dig deep think outside the box 0:45:52.400,0:45:55.520 to think right well 0:45:53.680,0:45:58.480 if those customers aren't here what 0:45:55.520,0:46:01.040 other customers can i go after 0:45:58.480,0:46:03.200 and because there will be there will be 0:46:01.040,0:46:04.880 customers it's maybe you think about a 0:46:03.200,0:46:06.160 different product line or something like 0:46:04.880,0:46:08.400 that that you bring on 0:46:06.160,0:46:10.319 to suit the new demands or the new 0:46:08.400,0:46:11.920 behaviors of people 0:46:10.319,0:46:14.000 indeed i think that that pivoting of 0:46:11.920,0:46:15.599 businesses is extremely important matt 0:46:14.000,0:46:17.599 you seem to have done that very well 0:46:15.599,0:46:18.720 indeed and and on behalf of your clients 0:46:17.599,0:46:20.240 as well 0:46:18.720,0:46:22.480 how would you feel you could you could 0:46:20.240,0:46:24.240 help um liam if he'd come to you with 0:46:22.480,0:46:28.400 this particular challenge 0:46:24.240,0:46:30.480 i think um yeah thanks uh i think and 0:46:28.400,0:46:32.240 it's about looking at your digital 0:46:30.480,0:46:32.640 presence in this current situation i 0:46:32.240,0:46:34.400 think 0:46:32.640,0:46:36.000 you've got to remember now that 0:46:34.400,0:46:37.839 everybody is online 0:46:36.000,0:46:39.040 everybody's looking to online and there 0:46:37.839,0:46:42.160 is a massive 0:46:39.040,0:46:42.720 amount of those um people online and i 0:46:42.160,0:46:44.560 think 0:46:42.720,0:46:45.839 you need to sort of look at your 0:46:44.560,0:46:48.720 business and think okay 0:46:45.839,0:46:50.400 if i'm a shop i can't get the people 0:46:48.720,0:46:52.079 there's not enough people in the street 0:46:50.400,0:46:54.240 how can i get some online can i do some 0:46:52.079,0:46:55.920 advertising can i use google actually 0:46:54.240,0:46:58.079 give you some free advertising at times 0:46:55.920,0:47:00.560 facebook do as well at different times 0:46:58.079,0:47:01.599 um can you use these and tools these 0:47:00.560,0:47:03.520 social tools 0:47:01.599,0:47:05.599 to get your message out there instead so 0:47:03.520,0:47:06.560 it's about looking at a new way of doing 0:47:05.599,0:47:09.119 things and 0:47:06.560,0:47:10.560 not the traditional looking at digital 0:47:09.119,0:47:11.920 and how that can push your business 0:47:10.560,0:47:12.880 forward and how you can get those 0:47:11.920,0:47:15.440 commuters 0:47:12.880,0:47:17.280 through your website instead of through 0:47:15.440,0:47:20.480 the door as such 0:47:17.280,0:47:21.119 thanks that's brilliant um and uh as if 0:47:20.480,0:47:22.559 by magic 0:47:21.119,0:47:24.319 luckily we've got some more questions 0:47:22.559,0:47:27.599 coming in so i'll go straight to those 0:47:24.319,0:47:29.920 um craig willis saying 0:47:27.599,0:47:31.040 trying to pivot your business and target 0:47:29.920,0:47:34.000 a different customer 0:47:31.040,0:47:35.520 can be time consuming given how limited 0:47:34.000,0:47:37.359 resources are 0:47:35.520,0:47:39.440 what tips do you have for making this 0:47:37.359,0:47:40.559 easier and quicker 0:47:39.440,0:47:42.800 i'll start with matt and then we're 0:47:40.559,0:47:44.079 going to jillian matt i don't know if 0:47:42.800,0:47:47.359 it's ever 0:47:44.079,0:47:48.880 easy or quick to get to your your the 0:47:47.359,0:47:52.000 end result you're looking for 0:47:48.880,0:47:54.079 um for us i mean i work stupid hours 0:47:52.000,0:47:56.160 a lot of the time to be fair um but i am 0:47:54.079,0:47:58.960 always looking out for what's available 0:47:56.160,0:48:00.240 i mean an easy thing to do is simply to 0:47:58.960,0:48:02.319 go on social media 0:48:00.240,0:48:03.440 and see what the silent leopard putting 0:48:02.319,0:48:04.880 out see what 0:48:03.440,0:48:06.720 natural enterprises are putting out 0:48:04.880,0:48:07.520 because something they're absolutely 0:48:06.720,0:48:09.680 incredible 0:48:07.520,0:48:12.000 what the stuff that's been put out on on 0:48:09.680,0:48:14.000 their posts on linkedin 0:48:12.000,0:48:15.760 and facebook and same with portsmouth 0:48:14.000,0:48:18.400 uni and then 0:48:15.760,0:48:19.359 all of that stuff is is easy to do it's 0:48:18.400,0:48:20.880 easy to look at 0:48:19.359,0:48:22.640 it may take a little bit of time then to 0:48:20.880,0:48:24.240 go into that and look to see what 0:48:22.640,0:48:26.559 resources are available to you 0:48:24.240,0:48:27.920 and what grants are but i mean i've i've 0:48:26.559,0:48:29.119 put grants in for people that are 0:48:27.920,0:48:31.200 literally a 0:48:29.119,0:48:32.400 an a4 piece of paper so some of this 0:48:31.200,0:48:34.240 stuff is not difficult 0:48:32.400,0:48:35.440 it's just knowing about your business 0:48:34.240,0:48:37.119 and what you've already 0:48:35.440,0:48:38.960 got within your business so it may be 0:48:37.119,0:48:40.720 you have to give your financials overall 0:48:38.960,0:48:42.000 or a little bit more information but 0:48:40.720,0:48:43.680 some like i say some of these grants are 0:48:42.000,0:48:47.040 literally an a4 piece of paper 0:48:43.680,0:48:49.680 and to put your story across and so it's 0:48:47.040,0:48:50.960 it's really just taking the time to look 0:48:49.680,0:48:52.640 at what's out there 0:48:50.960,0:48:54.640 and what people are offering go on the 0:48:52.640,0:48:56.880 silent web website 0:48:54.640,0:48:58.240 um and see what's around and and 0:48:56.880,0:49:00.839 applying for that 0:48:58.240,0:49:02.000 which can sometimes be quite a quick 0:49:00.839,0:49:04.240 process 0:49:02.000,0:49:06.079 indeed absolutely and of course bounce 0:49:04.240,0:49:07.200 back loans and reinvesting in your 0:49:06.079,0:49:09.520 business all of these things 0:49:07.200,0:49:11.280 have helped jillian have you got any any 0:49:09.520,0:49:14.480 steer for craig on this 0:49:11.280,0:49:16.559 um yeah i think ultimately 0:49:14.480,0:49:18.319 um building on what ma has said you know 0:49:16.559,0:49:20.559 it can be time consuming 0:49:18.319,0:49:21.680 sadly there is no resting on your 0:49:20.559,0:49:23.520 laurels here 0:49:21.680,0:49:26.240 you know it's it's the strongest of the 0:49:23.520,0:49:26.960 species will survive i'm afraid and it's 0:49:26.240,0:49:29.119 where 0:49:26.960,0:49:30.079 you you you will have to push yourself 0:49:29.119,0:49:33.200 out of your comfort zone 0:49:30.079,0:49:35.040 here i think in terms of noting 0:49:33.200,0:49:36.640 you may have limited resources you may 0:49:35.040,0:49:38.880 have limited knowledge as to what 0:49:36.640,0:49:40.800 different opportunities may be 0:49:38.880,0:49:42.160 and this is where it's really important 0:49:40.800,0:49:44.960 to be in a position where 0:49:42.160,0:49:46.400 you're always keeping yourself one step 0:49:44.960,0:49:48.160 ahead of the game 0:49:46.400,0:49:49.599 and be keeping yourself one step ahead 0:49:48.160,0:49:52.079 of the game this might be 0:49:49.599,0:49:53.599 what you're doing yourself as a business 0:49:52.079,0:49:54.640 owner in terms of your own personal 0:49:53.599,0:49:57.839 development 0:49:54.640,0:50:00.000 in your own knowledge piece um how much 0:49:57.839,0:50:01.680 time are you spending watching what your 0:50:00.000,0:50:04.240 competitors are doing 0:50:01.680,0:50:04.960 uh how much time are you spending seeing 0:50:04.240,0:50:07.280 what the 0:50:04.960,0:50:08.480 sort of incoming trends are looking at 0:50:07.280,0:50:10.960 what's happening in the 0:50:08.480,0:50:12.160 us because generally it does come 0:50:10.960,0:50:15.680 further east 0:50:12.160,0:50:17.520 um but it's it's horizon scanning all of 0:50:15.680,0:50:20.000 the time to see what's happening so you 0:50:17.520,0:50:23.359 do have to be ones one step ahead 0:50:20.000,0:50:25.359 um so that you're not always reactive 0:50:23.359,0:50:28.079 yes it is going to be time consuming but 0:50:25.359,0:50:29.680 if you change your behaviors so that 0:50:28.079,0:50:32.079 every day you're doing a little bit of 0:50:29.680,0:50:34.559 working on your business 0:50:32.079,0:50:36.640 and that added value to both yourself in 0:50:34.559,0:50:39.680 terms of your knowledge 0:50:36.640,0:50:41.119 and what you're understanding and that 0:50:39.680,0:50:43.760 the markets are 0:50:41.119,0:50:45.839 within your industry sub industries 0:50:43.760,0:50:48.800 branch industries etc 0:50:45.839,0:50:50.880 it means that you can turn your hand to 0:50:48.800,0:50:51.680 innovation and pivoting a lot a lot 0:50:50.880,0:50:54.800 easier 0:50:51.680,0:50:57.359 it's also the company that you keep um 0:50:54.800,0:50:58.960 how do you use um spend your time what 0:50:57.359,0:51:01.760 what sort of people are you 0:50:58.960,0:51:02.480 um networking with so it's looking at 0:51:01.760,0:51:04.160 your network 0:51:02.480,0:51:05.839 so again what people can you sort of 0:51:04.160,0:51:07.920 learn from in 0:51:05.839,0:51:09.680 a very easy way that is you're just 0:51:07.920,0:51:10.880 constantly thinking oh wow 0:51:09.680,0:51:12.640 well i actually wouldn't have thought of 0:51:10.880,0:51:13.920 that or that's really useful so if you 0:51:12.640,0:51:15.440 take that one bit of knowledge and 0:51:13.920,0:51:17.359 connect it with the other 0:51:15.440,0:51:18.800 boom you might just have a new 0:51:17.359,0:51:20.839 opportunity to trial 0:51:18.800,0:51:22.400 so it's just that constant refreshing of 0:51:20.839,0:51:24.559 yourself 0:51:22.400,0:51:25.599 and that will then help refresh your 0:51:24.559,0:51:28.240 business 0:51:25.599,0:51:29.520 i think i think that's right a little 0:51:28.240,0:51:30.079 bit of a plug for the chamber of 0:51:29.520,0:51:31.760 commerce 0:51:30.079,0:51:33.839 i think that was one of the reasons that 0:51:31.760,0:51:35.119 we did the chamber of solutions events 0:51:33.839,0:51:36.480 throughout the whole period because it's 0:51:35.119,0:51:37.520 about building your community of 0:51:36.480,0:51:40.400 practice 0:51:37.520,0:51:41.119 that can really help you as a business 0:51:40.400,0:51:42.960 jillian 0:51:41.119,0:51:44.240 stephanie's asked a very interesting 0:51:42.960,0:51:46.720 question and i noted it 0:51:44.240,0:51:48.319 when you were doing your presentation 0:51:46.720,0:51:50.400 this disparity 0:51:48.319,0:51:52.079 with regard to home working and she's 0:51:50.400,0:51:54.480 picked up on a particular 0:51:52.079,0:51:56.559 point regarding child care so she says 0:51:54.480,0:51:57.440 how does flexibility for child care 0:51:56.559,0:52:00.160 responsive 0:51:57.440,0:52:02.480 responsibilities work in practice how is 0:52:00.160,0:52:04.319 flexibility extended without creating 0:52:02.480,0:52:06.559 tension between staff members 0:52:04.319,0:52:08.559 without children and is there a way of 0:52:06.559,0:52:10.000 supporting staff with children and child 0:52:08.559,0:52:12.319 care responsibilities 0:52:10.000,0:52:13.760 that doesn't include asking staff to 0:52:12.319,0:52:16.400 make up hours at 0:52:13.760,0:52:18.240 night or weekends or take a salary cut 0:52:16.400,0:52:20.079 or use up holiday 0:52:18.240,0:52:22.079 she gets this type of question quite a 0:52:20.079,0:52:24.160 lot in her role so 0:52:22.079,0:52:25.119 that is part of that disparity piece 0:52:24.160,0:52:28.240 home working has 0:52:25.119,0:52:32.640 created new challenges yes it has 0:52:28.240,0:52:35.119 um i'm i'm not aware of what stephanie's 0:52:32.640,0:52:37.119 business model is that she works in and 0:52:35.119,0:52:39.599 and what her role supports 0:52:37.119,0:52:40.240 um ultimately if it is a business 0:52:39.599,0:52:43.200 practice 0:52:40.240,0:52:45.119 that can have staff work from home that 0:52:43.200,0:52:47.520 of course will then make 0:52:45.119,0:52:48.160 the child care element a lot a lot 0:52:47.520,0:52:50.720 easier 0:52:48.160,0:52:52.480 where of course working parents can of 0:52:50.720,0:52:54.160 course multi-task 0:52:52.480,0:52:56.480 if they can carry out their work 0:52:54.160,0:52:59.680 responsibilities at home 0:52:56.480,0:53:02.000 while while the children are there in 0:52:59.680,0:53:03.680 situ it of course is a lot more 0:53:02.000,0:53:07.440 challenging if the actual 0:53:03.680,0:53:09.680 business model and the the work role 0:53:07.440,0:53:11.599 oh here we've got a local authority in 0:53:09.680,0:53:14.400 the economic growth team and deal with 0:53:11.599,0:53:16.720 businesses on a daily basis 0:53:14.400,0:53:18.559 and so it's looking as to whether that 0:53:16.720,0:53:20.319 actual job rule can be carried out 0:53:18.559,0:53:22.480 remotely 0:53:20.319,0:53:23.920 and it's then looking in in order to 0:53:22.480,0:53:27.200 have that 0:53:23.920,0:53:29.359 um ability for your 0:53:27.200,0:53:31.280 female staff and i say they know so they 0:53:29.359,0:53:32.720 don't have to make up hours at night and 0:53:31.280,0:53:34.480 weekends where they don't have to take a 0:53:32.720,0:53:36.079 salary cut so that of course is what you 0:53:34.480,0:53:38.800 want to avoid 0:53:36.079,0:53:39.440 so i think it's looking at your job 0:53:38.800,0:53:41.520 roles 0:53:39.440,0:53:43.280 and looking at how those job rules can 0:53:41.520,0:53:45.680 actually be executed 0:53:43.280,0:53:47.119 looking at the practices within your 0:53:45.680,0:53:49.359 business as well 0:53:47.119,0:53:50.240 how all of your practices are executed 0:53:49.359,0:53:53.680 so it's 0:53:50.240,0:53:56.000 it's having inclusive um operating 0:53:53.680,0:53:58.400 practices so rather than having 0:53:56.000,0:53:59.040 the board meeting on a monday at lunch 0:53:58.400,0:54:01.119 time 0:53:59.040,0:54:02.160 back around the traditional physical 0:54:01.119,0:54:03.760 board table 0:54:02.160,0:54:05.520 and having that aspiration for everyone 0:54:03.760,0:54:08.559 to be there physically 0:54:05.520,0:54:10.079 it's having flexible practices and 0:54:08.559,0:54:12.720 flexible meeting practices 0:54:10.079,0:54:14.559 so that remote team members can still 0:54:12.720,0:54:18.000 take part in the meeting 0:54:14.559,0:54:19.680 um and that a lot of what was learned 0:54:18.000,0:54:22.640 and a lot of that capability that was 0:54:19.680,0:54:25.599 gained during lockdown 1.0 0:54:22.640,0:54:26.960 still it still extends and this is where 0:54:25.599,0:54:28.640 we are seeing 0:54:26.960,0:54:31.440 a lot of crossover with this hybrid 0:54:28.640,0:54:32.319 model um so that those individuals can 0:54:31.440,0:54:35.599 still avail 0:54:32.319,0:54:37.119 of their child care um responsibilities 0:54:35.599,0:54:39.839 if they are ad hoc 0:54:37.119,0:54:41.359 um and it means they can still do their 0:54:39.839,0:54:43.680 work role as well 0:54:41.359,0:54:45.040 um within the normal working hours so 0:54:43.680,0:54:47.200 it's not then 0:54:45.040,0:54:48.960 and consistently pushed through into 0:54:47.200,0:54:52.799 evenings and weekends 0:54:48.960,0:54:54.000 etc and of course this might be parallel 0:54:52.799,0:54:56.480 also for 0:54:54.000,0:54:58.799 um carrying responsibilities at the 0:54:56.480,0:55:01.280 upper age spectrum also 0:54:58.799,0:55:03.200 um you know elderly people put into 0:55:01.280,0:55:05.200 hospital because of covid 0:55:03.200,0:55:06.799 and of course they can't stay in 0:55:05.200,0:55:09.520 hospital once they're better 0:55:06.799,0:55:10.319 because they need the beds back and you 0:55:09.520,0:55:12.640 know they can't 0:55:10.319,0:55:13.760 necessarily go into other social care 0:55:12.640,0:55:15.760 systems so 0:55:13.760,0:55:18.000 there is increasingly a responsibility 0:55:15.760,0:55:21.760 during the pandemic for family members 0:55:18.000,0:55:25.040 to then look after um uh 0:55:21.760,0:55:27.520 you know people that and um 0:55:25.040,0:55:29.119 and their uh loved ones that do they 0:55:27.520,0:55:30.960 have to come back home 0:55:29.119,0:55:33.119 absolutely so it's that additional 0:55:30.960,0:55:34.480 caring responsibility it isn't just 0:55:33.119,0:55:37.119 children 0:55:34.480,0:55:38.160 quite right absolutely and i i think one 0:55:37.119,0:55:41.359 would 0:55:38.160,0:55:44.640 imagine that the last year has been a 0:55:41.359,0:55:45.520 a social experiment in in our teams 0:55:44.640,0:55:47.440 being a village 0:55:45.520,0:55:49.200 and actually working with each other to 0:55:47.440,0:55:50.559 to resolve these issues but i know just 0:55:49.200,0:55:52.640 how difficult that can be 0:55:50.559,0:55:54.000 matt you seem to have a very good team 0:55:52.640,0:55:56.480 working with you 0:55:54.000,0:55:57.680 have you had these challenges and uh uh 0:55:56.480,0:55:59.359 have you found 0:55:57.680,0:56:00.720 innovative ways of dealing with these 0:55:59.359,0:56:03.520 matters 0:56:00.720,0:56:04.079 we've have had these challenges me my 0:56:03.520,0:56:05.920 wife 0:56:04.079,0:56:07.599 and in terms of uh she's part of the 0:56:05.920,0:56:09.680 business we obviously 0:56:07.599,0:56:11.760 locked down one the kids were at home 0:56:09.680,0:56:12.400 and her trying to continue to work was 0:56:11.760,0:56:15.520 just 0:56:12.400,0:56:16.079 very very difficult um so that ended 0:56:15.520,0:56:19.280 quite quickly 0:56:16.079,0:56:20.640 but it was it's it's it's a difficult 0:56:19.280,0:56:23.760 one because if you say 0:56:20.640,0:56:27.119 uh i want to basically do um 0:56:23.760,0:56:28.720 i have less hours uh i want to 0:56:27.119,0:56:30.160 you know i need to look after my kids 0:56:28.720,0:56:32.640 which is all which is all 0:56:30.160,0:56:34.480 good um but at the time would need to be 0:56:32.640,0:56:36.640 made up somewhere presumably 0:56:34.480,0:56:38.640 um to say i i don't want to take out a 0:56:36.640,0:56:39.359 holiday i don't want a salary cart i 0:56:38.640,0:56:42.799 don't want 0:56:39.359,0:56:44.799 to make up the time is is not 0:56:42.799,0:56:45.839 i don't know how you would get around 0:56:44.799,0:56:47.920 that other than 0:56:45.839,0:56:49.280 doing agile work and making up the time 0:56:47.920,0:56:52.160 as and when they can type 0:56:49.280,0:56:54.160 type of thing um that's how we deal with 0:56:52.160,0:56:56.480 it we've got uh adam who 0:56:54.160,0:56:57.599 he he picks up his kids on a friday 0:56:56.480,0:56:59.680 afternoon so 0:56:57.599,0:57:01.440 um that came about nothing to do with 0:56:59.680,0:57:04.000 code actually um but 0:57:01.440,0:57:06.240 he makes up the time in the evenings on 0:57:04.000,0:57:07.119 wednesdays or thursdays whenever we're 0:57:06.240,0:57:08.640 we're not really 0:57:07.119,0:57:10.240 bothered about what day it is but he 0:57:08.640,0:57:10.880 just makes up that time just lets us 0:57:10.240,0:57:13.680 know 0:57:10.880,0:57:15.359 on our little digital timer system that 0:57:13.680,0:57:18.640 he's done those hours so 0:57:15.359,0:57:20.319 um i think he can be flexible um i think 0:57:18.640,0:57:23.359 it's difficult to say 0:57:20.319,0:57:25.119 um we basically want to do less hours 0:57:23.359,0:57:26.640 but still get paid the same amount not 0:57:25.119,0:57:27.280 make up any time not ever taken out 0:57:26.640,0:57:29.839 holiday 0:57:27.280,0:57:30.559 that's a a bit more difficult to figure 0:57:29.839,0:57:33.520 out how you would 0:57:30.559,0:57:35.359 do that personally i think that's right 0:57:33.520,0:57:37.839 i think it's it probably is 0:57:35.359,0:57:39.440 shaped around the individual individual 0:57:37.839,0:57:40.799 requirements isn't it but uh 0:57:39.440,0:57:42.799 you're absolutely right there is this 0:57:40.799,0:57:44.079 equality piece that comes into play in 0:57:42.799,0:57:46.960 the workplace that uh 0:57:44.079,0:57:49.280 needs to be addressed mike on on a 0:57:46.960,0:57:51.440 similar subject or related subjects um 0:57:49.280,0:57:52.960 who did you involve in your business 0:57:51.440,0:57:55.839 when drawing up your 0:57:52.960,0:57:57.200 lockdown plans we'll call them that uh 0:57:55.839,0:57:59.359 and what were there what were their 0:57:57.200,0:58:00.880 insights do you feel as you as you 0:57:59.359,0:58:02.559 started to develop and shape these 0:58:00.880,0:58:05.280 things um 0:58:02.559,0:58:05.760 we actually got together as directors me 0:58:05.280,0:58:08.240 fee 0:58:05.760,0:58:08.960 and alan who's my dad from a family run 0:58:08.240,0:58:11.520 business 0:58:08.960,0:58:12.400 um and we sort of looked at what we 0:58:11.520,0:58:15.119 needed to do 0:58:12.400,0:58:15.920 and shape those plans um between us 0:58:15.119,0:58:18.480 really 0:58:15.920,0:58:19.440 we did involve the staff as well in 0:58:18.480,0:58:21.040 terms of 0:58:19.440,0:58:22.640 coming up with ideas what can we be 0:58:21.040,0:58:24.799 doing um to 0:58:22.640,0:58:26.079 um fight against this situation what 0:58:24.799,0:58:28.160 what can we be putting out there what 0:58:26.079,0:58:30.160 creative campaigns can we put together 0:58:28.160,0:58:31.520 um i think it's important to involve the 0:58:30.160,0:58:32.319 staff in terms of some of those 0:58:31.520,0:58:34.319 decisions 0:58:32.319,0:58:36.240 and then feedback to them how that's 0:58:34.319,0:58:38.160 gone or what we've done and 0:58:36.240,0:58:40.160 and so they can be really part of that 0:58:38.160,0:58:42.799 business because i think having 0:58:40.160,0:58:44.960 your staff wanting to give you these 0:58:42.799,0:58:46.880 ideas and not every idea will be used 0:58:44.960,0:58:48.720 but um you know having them to be 0:58:46.880,0:58:50.000 involved in that process makes them 0:58:48.720,0:58:52.400 more feel more of a part of that 0:58:50.000,0:58:52.720 business and therefore more attached to 0:58:52.400,0:58:55.119 it 0:58:52.720,0:58:56.240 and where it goes and its growth and i 0:58:55.119,0:58:59.040 think um 0:58:56.240,0:58:59.839 having everybody together to try and 0:58:59.040,0:59:01.680 create 0:58:59.839,0:59:03.359 what's you know different ideas and then 0:59:01.680,0:59:04.400 for the directors to go okay we'll do 0:59:03.359,0:59:05.839 this this and this 0:59:04.400,0:59:07.119 and then trust the feedback to them and 0:59:05.839,0:59:08.480 say look this worked well that didn't 0:59:07.119,0:59:11.520 work or it was a good 0:59:08.480,0:59:13.520 good effort or this went really well um 0:59:11.520,0:59:15.040 it is great for them and also a little 0:59:13.520,0:59:16.559 bit of a boost in regard you know that 0:59:15.040,0:59:20.000 my idea was used or 0:59:16.559,0:59:20.799 uh and such so we kind of um between the 0:59:20.000,0:59:22.720 whole team 0:59:20.799,0:59:24.160 and and then specifically on the top 0:59:22.720,0:59:25.680 tier trying to 0:59:24.160,0:59:27.680 create some sort of plans to make sure 0:59:25.680,0:59:28.960 that we were safe and could continue on 0:59:27.680,0:59:32.000 was in the business would be 0:59:28.960,0:59:33.040 would be able to progress it's it's all 0:59:32.000,0:59:34.799 about i mean i 0:59:33.040,0:59:36.400 we have heard a lot from businesses that 0:59:34.799,0:59:38.559 it's really helped to to 0:59:36.400,0:59:40.640 bond and create a new culture in some of 0:59:38.559,0:59:42.400 these organizations as a result 0:59:40.640,0:59:44.559 so there's always some good things that 0:59:42.400,0:59:47.200 come out of these these challenges 0:59:44.559,0:59:48.480 these moments i suppose of crisis that 0:59:47.200,0:59:49.839 we that we address 0:59:48.480,0:59:51.920 and it sounds like that's happened in 0:59:49.839,0:59:52.480 your business very much definitely when 0:59:51.920,0:59:54.960 we add 0:59:52.480,0:59:56.720 we to be fair we've got an incredible 0:59:54.960,0:59:58.640 team and that we're pretty a 0:59:56.720,0:59:59.839 tight-knit team to be fair we all 0:59:58.640,1:00:02.319 support each other on 0:59:59.839,1:00:03.359 different projects if one uh person's 1:00:02.319,1:00:04.240 out someone else will pick up the 1:00:03.359,1:00:06.480 project we're 1:00:04.240,1:00:08.079 we're constantly chatting um we have 1:00:06.480,1:00:08.720 messenger and stuff as well on facebook 1:00:08.079,1:00:10.720 we have a 1:00:08.720,1:00:11.760 sort of fun chat as well so there's 1:00:10.720,1:00:14.720 constantly 1:00:11.760,1:00:15.119 um talking communication back and forth 1:00:14.720,1:00:16.480 so 1:00:15.119,1:00:18.319 we're pretty lucky in that respect 1:00:16.480,1:00:19.839 anyhow but even more so within an 1:00:18.319,1:00:20.240 environment that we're currently working 1:00:19.839,1:00:21.920 with 1:00:20.240,1:00:23.440 to have that support and know that your 1:00:21.920,1:00:26.480 team are there for you 1:00:23.440,1:00:30.160 um is is massive thank you 1:00:26.480,1:00:33.839 matt um jillian um on a slightly related 1:00:30.160,1:00:35.359 subject um when when looking at the 1:00:33.839,1:00:37.359 research and and 1:00:35.359,1:00:38.400 and the work that you've been looking at 1:00:37.359,1:00:41.520 particularly from 1:00:38.400,1:00:43.280 from a broader perspective do you think 1:00:41.520,1:00:44.799 that businesses you know really 1:00:43.280,1:00:47.920 there was a lot of development on the 1:00:44.799,1:00:49.839 hoof as far as businesses were concerned 1:00:47.920,1:00:51.119 through through innovation or did 1:00:49.839,1:00:53.119 businesses address 1:00:51.119,1:00:54.880 everything in a more planned and formal 1:00:53.119,1:00:55.520 way what what do you think the balance 1:00:54.880,1:00:58.720 was 1:00:55.520,1:01:01.920 from your perspective um 1:00:58.720,1:01:04.720 so i believe that there was a lot of 1:01:01.920,1:01:05.200 uh quick reactive responses which of 1:01:04.720,1:01:07.119 course 1:01:05.200,1:01:09.280 you get when you are under pressure it's 1:01:07.119,1:01:10.240 that sort of fight fight fight or flight 1:01:09.280,1:01:12.880 mode 1:01:10.240,1:01:14.480 and i think we've seen some excellent 1:01:12.880,1:01:16.640 innovative responses 1:01:14.480,1:01:18.720 where people were put out of the comfort 1:01:16.640,1:01:21.040 zone and they had to really think right 1:01:18.720,1:01:22.640 what am i going to do people were put 1:01:21.040,1:01:23.920 under pressure to make decisions that 1:01:22.640,1:01:24.400 they never thought they would have had 1:01:23.920,1:01:26.640 to 1:01:24.400,1:01:28.160 have made and what that has done for a 1:01:26.640,1:01:30.640 lot of people is actually 1:01:28.160,1:01:32.559 show them what they are capable of doing 1:01:30.640,1:01:34.640 um it's maybe made them think 1:01:32.559,1:01:36.640 outside of boundaries that they would 1:01:34.640,1:01:39.839 never have considered before 1:01:36.640,1:01:41.280 um and having those practices are 1:01:39.839,1:01:44.880 actually very good 1:01:41.280,1:01:47.599 um renewal and enhancement practices 1:01:44.880,1:01:48.359 um i think as we've experienced now 1:01:47.599,1:01:51.520 lockdown 1:01:48.359,1:01:53.359 2.0 and of course we have to understand 1:01:51.520,1:01:54.160 the the uncertainty is still going to 1:01:53.359,1:01:55.920 continue 1:01:54.160,1:01:57.280 while there may be bright light shining 1:01:55.920,1:01:58.319 at the end of the tunnel with obviously 1:01:57.280,1:02:00.880 a vaccine 1:01:58.319,1:02:02.960 we know that it's there is still going 1:02:00.880,1:02:06.160 to be an element of disruption 1:02:02.960,1:02:08.720 i think what we're seeing now is um 1:02:06.160,1:02:10.160 maybe businesses reflecting on okay 1:02:08.720,1:02:11.920 we've maybe had to feel 1:02:10.160,1:02:13.200 feel fast in some of the initiatives 1:02:11.920,1:02:15.119 that we looked at or 1:02:13.200,1:02:16.559 we've maybe made a quick decision and 1:02:15.119,1:02:18.160 we've put in um 1:02:16.559,1:02:20.559 short-term initiatives that have maybe 1:02:18.160,1:02:22.960 acted as bridging initiatives where 1:02:20.559,1:02:23.680 maybe they've um had it maybe a quick 1:02:22.960,1:02:25.760 fix to 1:02:23.680,1:02:27.440 put their business online with a very 1:02:25.760,1:02:30.559 quick sort of website and 1:02:27.440,1:02:31.839 um shopping cart back-end built onto it 1:02:30.559,1:02:34.240 maybe they want to 1:02:31.839,1:02:36.480 do a full overhaul of their of their 1:02:34.240,1:02:38.799 website now maybe they want to 1:02:36.480,1:02:41.119 um think about where their brand 1:02:38.799,1:02:43.680 actually sits moving forwards and 1:02:41.119,1:02:45.200 maybe new um identities that they want 1:02:43.680,1:02:47.280 to bring into their branding 1:02:45.200,1:02:48.960 as a result of what they have exposed 1:02:47.280,1:02:52.079 themselves to during 1:02:48.960,1:02:52.559 um the last six months and also i think 1:02:52.079,1:02:55.440 it's 1:02:52.559,1:02:57.200 it's it's been a period of renewal for a 1:02:55.440,1:02:59.039 lot of businesses and 1:02:57.200,1:03:00.400 um repositioning of their business 1:02:59.039,1:03:03.119 strategy really 1:03:00.400,1:03:05.520 on the back of maybe having to close off 1:03:03.119,1:03:07.280 previous sales lines and so forth where 1:03:05.520,1:03:09.760 of course if that one market has dried 1:03:07.280,1:03:12.000 up but then new opportunities arise 1:03:09.760,1:03:13.200 it's then realigning themselves for new 1:03:12.000,1:03:16.799 opportunities 1:03:13.200,1:03:20.240 in a more sort of resilient way as well 1:03:16.799,1:03:22.319 very good um i think 1:03:20.240,1:03:24.160 one of the key issues jillian is is also 1:03:22.319,1:03:25.599 around productivity do you think as a 1:03:24.160,1:03:28.319 result of these 1:03:25.599,1:03:28.799 changes this is going to help to enhance 1:03:28.319,1:03:31.760 or 1:03:28.799,1:03:32.960 or is it going to place britain further 1:03:31.760,1:03:35.440 behind the 1:03:32.960,1:03:36.799 the productivity curve how do what do 1:03:35.440,1:03:39.359 you think will happen 1:03:36.799,1:03:40.880 yeah so i think the productivity curve's 1:03:39.359,1:03:42.559 a bit up and down 1:03:40.880,1:03:44.400 really um i suppose if we were going to 1:03:42.559,1:03:46.079 try and draw a straight line across all 1:03:44.400,1:03:46.720 of those curves what would it actually 1:03:46.079,1:03:48.480 look like 1:03:46.720,1:03:51.520 would it be straight would it be up or 1:03:48.480,1:03:52.880 down i mean there has been so many 1:03:51.520,1:03:54.559 business industries that have been 1:03:52.880,1:03:58.079 significantly hit and i think 1:03:54.559,1:04:01.200 the hospitality industry for example has 1:03:58.079,1:04:02.960 been very very severely hit so of course 1:04:01.200,1:04:04.799 their productivity of course has gone 1:04:02.960,1:04:08.160 down if they've had to close their 1:04:04.799,1:04:09.760 doors so um they're in obviously that 1:04:08.160,1:04:11.920 more challenging position 1:04:09.760,1:04:12.880 um with very strong rules when of course 1:04:11.920,1:04:15.520 they are in that 1:04:12.880,1:04:16.799 and productive phase but i think aside 1:04:15.520,1:04:19.039 of obviously the 1:04:16.799,1:04:20.160 um hospitality industry i think it's 1:04:19.039,1:04:23.520 looking at the other 1:04:20.160,1:04:26.319 businesses and where they can then find 1:04:23.520,1:04:29.760 it find a niche for their products and 1:04:26.319,1:04:33.119 and how productivity can actually be um 1:04:29.760,1:04:34.240 supported so while well i think it may 1:04:33.119,1:04:36.319 be slow 1:04:34.240,1:04:37.520 we we know that a lot of organizations 1:04:36.319,1:04:39.760 have had to 1:04:37.520,1:04:41.760 lay off staff as they've had to contract 1:04:39.760,1:04:45.039 where their business model has 1:04:41.760,1:04:46.640 understandably slow and slow and on um 1:04:45.039,1:04:48.640 people there's a lot of consolidation of 1:04:46.640,1:04:48.960 cost basis going on at the moment across 1:04:48.640,1:04:51.359 all 1:04:48.960,1:04:52.319 all sectors and as a result of that 1:04:51.359,1:04:55.280 happening 1:04:52.319,1:04:56.960 and of course the ultimate economic 1:04:55.280,1:04:58.799 growth will be in decline 1:04:56.960,1:05:01.039 but i think what we are seeing is where 1:04:58.799,1:05:05.119 we're seeing opportunities within 1:05:01.039,1:05:08.240 businesses um and new jobs actually 1:05:05.119,1:05:09.680 um i mean for all of the uh 1:05:08.240,1:05:11.520 job losses that are happening up and 1:05:09.680,1:05:13.760 down the country at the moment there are 1:05:11.520,1:05:14.720 still a lot of new jobs being created a 1:05:13.760,1:05:17.920 lot of businesses 1:05:14.720,1:05:19.440 employing new people um it's interesting 1:05:17.920,1:05:21.359 when you sort of look at a cross-section 1:05:19.440,1:05:25.599 of all of the skill sets 1:05:21.359,1:05:26.720 um digital is a is a key skill that sits 1:05:25.599,1:05:29.760 within that 1:05:26.720,1:05:32.720 um and the ability to analyze 1:05:29.760,1:05:34.400 data as well being obviously a focused 1:05:32.720,1:05:36.480 focus part of that 1:05:34.400,1:05:37.599 i think to be productive businesses are 1:05:36.480,1:05:40.640 having to be 1:05:37.599,1:05:41.760 um on a digital platform to support what 1:05:40.640,1:05:43.440 they're doing that's the only way that 1:05:41.760,1:05:44.960 they can be resilient against the sort 1:05:43.440,1:05:46.880 of disruption and shock that we've 1:05:44.960,1:05:49.200 experienced because of covid 1:05:46.880,1:05:50.640 and but also around that it's been 1:05:49.200,1:05:52.160 really focused on their on their 1:05:50.640,1:05:54.400 performance metrics for 1:05:52.160,1:05:56.160 for productivity so it's been in that 1:05:54.400,1:05:57.760 position to be constantly 1:05:56.160,1:05:59.200 reviewing where they're at from a cash 1:05:57.760,1:06:02.400 flow point of view 1:05:59.200,1:06:04.160 and it's it's on that weekly basis just 1:06:02.400,1:06:05.839 being really honored and trying to be 1:06:04.160,1:06:07.599 really future focused 1:06:05.839,1:06:09.119 absolutely i think there's a lot of 1:06:07.599,1:06:10.559 change that's happening right now under 1:06:09.119,1:06:12.640 the radar we'll see 1:06:10.559,1:06:14.079 we'll see that coming through there's a 1:06:12.640,1:06:15.680 there's a question that's coming from 1:06:14.079,1:06:16.319 martin which is very close to my heart 1:06:15.680,1:06:18.000 as 1:06:16.319,1:06:19.599 a chief executive of the chamber of 1:06:18.000,1:06:22.880 commerce but i'll i'll 1:06:19.599,1:06:24.960 i won't direct it to myself uh uh matt 1:06:22.880,1:06:26.240 um business networking via the chamber 1:06:24.960,1:06:28.559 of commerce 1:06:26.240,1:06:30.400 there are other networking organizations 1:06:28.559,1:06:32.079 and independent business groups is an 1:06:30.400,1:06:33.280 important part of sales for a lot of 1:06:32.079,1:06:36.400 businesses 1:06:33.280,1:06:38.880 all this physic physicality has stopped 1:06:36.400,1:06:39.680 throughout 2020 and has continued via 1:06:38.880,1:06:41.599 zoom 1:06:39.680,1:06:43.920 but many businesses find that online 1:06:41.599,1:06:46.559 networking is far less profitable 1:06:43.920,1:06:48.720 than when businesses can physically meet 1:06:46.559,1:06:50.400 as online is far less personal 1:06:48.720,1:06:53.599 do you think online networking will 1:06:50.400,1:06:56.000 become the norm from now on 1:06:53.599,1:06:57.440 um i might and actually martin's a 1:06:56.000,1:06:59.119 fellow graphic designer 1:06:57.440,1:07:00.880 from the island so it's good to see on 1:06:59.119,1:07:03.200 the call um the 1:07:00.880,1:07:04.720 uh yeah i mean i've seen martin at many 1:07:03.200,1:07:05.440 networking events here on the island 1:07:04.720,1:07:07.680 previously 1:07:05.440,1:07:08.960 and sadly over 2020 we haven't really 1:07:07.680,1:07:12.640 seen each other but 1:07:08.960,1:07:13.440 it's uh it is becoming a thing that the 1:07:12.640,1:07:16.000 zoom 1:07:13.440,1:07:17.520 uh the zoom thing is is great it was a 1:07:16.000,1:07:19.599 good sort of replacement for 1:07:17.520,1:07:20.640 when nothing else could happen i don't 1:07:19.599,1:07:23.359 think it will 1:07:20.640,1:07:24.240 be like this forever i think um there 1:07:23.359,1:07:26.799 will be 1:07:24.240,1:07:29.039 eventually once things calm down people 1:07:26.799,1:07:31.760 face to face meetings again 1:07:29.039,1:07:33.359 um there will be bubbles potentially and 1:07:31.760,1:07:36.480 eventually have these bigger 1:07:33.359,1:07:37.680 events i hopefully can't go on forever i 1:07:36.480,1:07:41.119 think you're right it is 1:07:37.680,1:07:43.760 more difficult to gain um 1:07:41.119,1:07:44.880 profit out of the zoom meetings because 1:07:43.760,1:07:48.079 people don't 1:07:44.880,1:07:49.599 necessarily follow up or stuff but but 1:07:48.079,1:07:52.079 what i sort of think of it as 1:07:49.599,1:07:52.720 is um online networking if you look at 1:07:52.079,1:07:54.960 linkedin 1:07:52.720,1:07:56.240 it's kind of everything you do on there 1:07:54.960,1:07:58.480 is online networking 1:07:56.240,1:08:00.079 it is actually a networking platform so 1:07:58.480,1:08:03.280 maybe following up people 1:08:00.079,1:08:04.160 on linkedin and and doing that after 1:08:03.280,1:08:06.079 calls and 1:08:04.160,1:08:07.359 maybe just dropping a note to say oh 1:08:06.079,1:08:08.720 that was interesting what you said if 1:08:07.359,1:08:10.160 there's a speaker 1:08:08.720,1:08:12.400 and to try and make those connections in 1:08:10.160,1:08:15.680 the digital present in a digital way 1:08:12.400,1:08:16.640 um is is a is a way to do it and a way 1:08:15.680,1:08:18.319 we should be doing it 1:08:16.640,1:08:20.560 even at the same time as having real 1:08:18.319,1:08:21.600 networking events i think um i think 1:08:20.560,1:08:23.040 that will help 1:08:21.600,1:08:25.279 in terms of engaging with people on 1:08:23.040,1:08:28.400 those platforms is is in 1:08:25.279,1:08:29.120 is networking but via a social way um i 1:08:28.400,1:08:30.880 do think 1:08:29.120,1:08:32.400 networking will be back i certainly hope 1:08:30.880,1:08:33.679 so for the chambers and and 1:08:32.400,1:08:35.600 all the other independent business 1:08:33.679,1:08:36.159 groups around because um you can't 1:08:35.600,1:08:38.400 really be 1:08:36.159,1:08:39.279 a face-to-face chat a cup of tea and a 1:08:38.400,1:08:41.279 biscuit and 1:08:39.279,1:08:42.640 passing over the business cards and 1:08:41.279,1:08:43.279 obviously for our business and yours 1:08:42.640,1:08:45.120 mine 1:08:43.279,1:08:46.719 um good that's great for us because 1:08:45.120,1:08:48.080 people need to create that 1:08:46.719,1:08:49.920 the marketing materials that they give 1:08:48.080,1:08:51.040 out to people and stuff so i truly hope 1:08:49.920,1:08:54.080 that it won't 1:08:51.040,1:08:54.640 be ongoing and uh as much as zoom is 1:08:54.080,1:08:58.159 great 1:08:54.640,1:09:00.480 uh it can't replace uh face to face 1:08:58.159,1:09:02.319 well i i i think i fully agree with that 1:09:00.480,1:09:03.199 i think that blend is is probably the 1:09:02.319,1:09:06.480 future 1:09:03.199,1:09:10.319 mike what what um uh matt so 1:09:06.480,1:09:12.080 what impact um did you experience with 1:09:10.319,1:09:14.159 external partners and supply chain 1:09:12.080,1:09:14.880 relationships has there been a change do 1:09:14.159,1:09:17.920 you think is it 1:09:14.880,1:09:20.880 during the um lockdown in the way that 1:09:17.920,1:09:23.679 those relationships have been ongoing 1:09:20.880,1:09:24.480 they've been also had to be online but 1:09:23.679,1:09:26.159 also because 1:09:24.480,1:09:27.920 probably some tough decisions have had 1:09:26.159,1:09:29.359 to be made i suspect 1:09:27.920,1:09:31.279 well we've seen we've seen some 1:09:29.359,1:09:34.000 suppliers go out of business sadly 1:09:31.279,1:09:34.719 um in terms of some print suppliers um 1:09:34.000,1:09:36.799 and 1:09:34.719,1:09:38.400 uh but we've got some pretty strong 1:09:36.799,1:09:41.679 relationships with 1:09:38.400,1:09:42.480 um it's mainly print really related 1:09:41.679,1:09:44.799 suppliers 1:09:42.480,1:09:46.640 um and they've been actually a lot of 1:09:44.799,1:09:48.880 those have been incredibly busy 1:09:46.640,1:09:49.839 and they've actually been doing like 1:09:48.880,1:09:51.520 that some of those 1:09:49.839,1:09:52.880 social distancing stuff that you've seen 1:09:51.520,1:09:54.880 and they've had to do that for 1:09:52.880,1:09:57.199 businesses across the whole country you 1:09:54.880,1:09:59.679 know so a lot of that stuff's going out 1:09:57.199,1:10:01.440 um and that and there also was a time 1:09:59.679,1:10:03.440 when lockdown one ended where 1:10:01.440,1:10:05.280 everybody started to promote again and 1:10:03.440,1:10:05.840 advertise and do outdoor advertising and 1:10:05.280,1:10:08.159 stuff so 1:10:05.840,1:10:09.440 so that's certainly improved um we have 1:10:08.159,1:10:11.360 other um 1:10:09.440,1:10:13.199 certainly we work quite heavily in the 1:10:11.360,1:10:16.320 taxi advertising industry 1:10:13.199,1:10:19.120 that was hit incredibly badly um with 1:10:16.320,1:10:21.199 um with kovid because people weren't 1:10:19.120,1:10:23.040 going out there was no one in taxis 1:10:21.199,1:10:24.400 so people weren't advertising on taxis 1:10:23.040,1:10:27.199 because nothing could be seen 1:10:24.400,1:10:28.480 um so that so those uh businesses 1:10:27.199,1:10:31.280 certainly had to adapt 1:10:28.480,1:10:33.040 incredibly uh really cleverly actually 1:10:31.280,1:10:35.120 some of the ways they adapted by 1:10:33.040,1:10:36.719 putting out information about taxis 1:10:35.120,1:10:37.520 being the safest form of transport 1:10:36.719,1:10:39.600 because there's a 1:10:37.520,1:10:40.960 there's a passenger compartment which is 1:10:39.600,1:10:43.760 away from the driver 1:10:40.960,1:10:44.000 um having all of the covered stuff in 1:10:43.760,1:10:46.080 there 1:10:44.000,1:10:48.080 as well in terms of stuff your hands 1:10:46.080,1:10:50.560 sanitizers and stuff 1:10:48.080,1:10:52.400 and so they kind of tried to adapt in 1:10:50.560,1:10:53.520 that way but certainly the advertising 1:10:52.400,1:10:54.960 spend that would normally have been 1:10:53.520,1:10:58.000 spent with those guys 1:10:54.960,1:11:00.800 was was definitely a lot less um and 1:10:58.000,1:11:02.480 so we see a lot of those suppliers 1:11:00.800,1:11:04.719 adapting to different tactics 1:11:02.480,1:11:05.600 trying and maneuver their way through 1:11:04.719,1:11:08.640 through the 1:11:05.600,1:11:10.480 the pandemic um but yeah in the whole 1:11:08.640,1:11:13.120 certainly in terms of print they 1:11:10.480,1:11:13.600 a lot of uh those suppliers have been 1:11:13.120,1:11:16.880 have 1:11:13.600,1:11:19.280 done really well indeed indeed 1:11:16.880,1:11:20.239 um we're gradually moving toward towards 1:11:19.280,1:11:22.800 the close 1:11:20.239,1:11:24.800 quarter past um i have a question really 1:11:22.800,1:11:26.800 for for both of you it's 1:11:24.800,1:11:28.880 we focused on a lot of the things that 1:11:26.800,1:11:30.080 have succeeded and a lot of um the 1:11:28.880,1:11:33.040 changes that i think are 1:11:30.080,1:11:33.440 bringing positive impact actually to to 1:11:33.040,1:11:37.440 uh 1:11:33.440,1:11:40.480 to let's say 2021 and beyond 1:11:37.440,1:11:40.960 but if we think about um not everything 1:11:40.480,1:11:43.040 has been 1:11:40.960,1:11:44.320 the greatest of success if we'd had our 1:11:43.040,1:11:46.000 time again 1:11:44.320,1:11:47.679 or if businesses had had their time 1:11:46.000,1:11:50.719 again the question is 1:11:47.679,1:11:51.920 what would we have done differently now 1:11:50.719,1:11:54.000 that's quite a tough one 1:11:51.920,1:11:55.760 so i'll let i'll let matt have some 1:11:54.000,1:11:58.159 thinking about that jillian i'm going to 1:11:55.760,1:11:59.679 chuck that one at you to start with what 1:11:58.159,1:12:01.360 what would we have done differently do 1:11:59.679,1:12:04.159 you think that might have created a 1:12:01.360,1:12:05.440 an even more positive impact yeah i 1:12:04.159,1:12:07.040 would probably imagine there's a lot of 1:12:05.440,1:12:07.760 businesses out there that said that they 1:12:07.040,1:12:09.840 were gonna 1:12:07.760,1:12:11.280 they would have converted to online a 1:12:09.840,1:12:13.120 lot quicker 1:12:11.280,1:12:14.640 because i think when we first went into 1:12:13.120,1:12:16.159 lockdown 1:12:14.640,1:12:17.840 none of us really knew what was 1:12:16.159,1:12:19.199 happening and we thought it was maybe 1:12:17.840,1:12:20.640 only going to be for a month or 1:12:19.199,1:12:22.480 something like that 1:12:20.640,1:12:24.320 and then of course the graphs still just 1:12:22.480,1:12:26.560 kept rising didn't they 1:12:24.320,1:12:27.760 and it went on probably for a lot longer 1:12:26.560,1:12:29.760 than what we 1:12:27.760,1:12:31.120 initially thought and i know there were 1:12:29.760,1:12:32.800 some businesses that sort of thought 1:12:31.120,1:12:36.080 okay i'll i'll take a dip 1:12:32.800,1:12:38.159 in my loss of loss of earnings because 1:12:36.080,1:12:40.000 it will then bounce back you know this 1:12:38.159,1:12:41.760 is this this is maybe only going to be 1:12:40.000,1:12:43.679 just for a short term 1:12:41.760,1:12:45.920 but i think now businesses are realizing 1:12:43.679,1:12:47.840 no this is a long-term disruption 1:12:45.920,1:12:48.960 which will mean a lot more of a cultural 1:12:47.840,1:12:50.719 shift 1:12:48.960,1:12:52.560 so probably where some businesses were 1:12:50.719,1:12:54.080 maybe sort of biding their time 1:12:52.560,1:12:55.600 still getting their head around at all 1:12:54.080,1:12:59.280 wondering what would be and 1:12:55.600,1:13:00.480 and held back um if they were to go into 1:12:59.280,1:13:02.560 it straight again 1:13:00.480,1:13:03.600 i i would imagine a lot of them would be 1:13:02.560,1:13:06.480 a lot more 1:13:03.600,1:13:07.120 focused on getting digital strategies in 1:13:06.480,1:13:10.360 place 1:13:07.120,1:13:11.600 and harnessing a new customer and 1:13:10.360,1:13:13.760 facilitating 1:13:11.600,1:13:15.920 uh sales route for their existing 1:13:13.760,1:13:17.760 customers a lot faster 1:13:15.920,1:13:19.199 thank you julia i think that's exactly 1:13:17.760,1:13:21.360 the answer matt would like to hear as 1:13:19.199,1:13:21.360 well 1:13:21.600,1:13:25.120 what do you think um businesses maybe 1:13:23.600,1:13:26.480 should have done differently or a bit 1:13:25.120,1:13:27.840 more urgently matt 1:13:26.480,1:13:29.840 i was going to say julian stole my 1:13:27.840,1:13:32.560 answer um yeah 1:13:29.840,1:13:34.239 yeah i think when we went into this 1:13:32.560,1:13:36.880 initially i think a lot of 1:13:34.239,1:13:38.560 people weren't really concerned they 1:13:36.880,1:13:40.960 didn't think it would be what it was 1:13:38.560,1:13:41.920 um obviously planning slightly more 1:13:40.960,1:13:44.880 ahead would have been 1:13:41.920,1:13:45.199 a good good idea but certainly digital 1:13:44.880,1:13:47.920 is 1:13:45.199,1:13:48.400 where we've seen people flourish i mean 1:13:47.920,1:13:51.520 it's 1:13:48.400,1:13:54.800 uh like i said about the fruit and veg 1:13:51.520,1:13:56.800 retailer they have never looked 1:13:54.800,1:13:58.960 at all at doing digital stuff they're a 1:13:56.800,1:13:59.360 wholesaler they did it in a traditional 1:13:58.960,1:14:01.600 way 1:13:59.360,1:14:03.040 they did have a holding page it was a 1:14:01.600,1:14:05.679 really old 1:14:03.040,1:14:06.239 about 20 year old holding page and that 1:14:05.679,1:14:09.600 was about 1:14:06.239,1:14:12.000 it they hit this situation and said okay 1:14:09.600,1:14:13.600 no one can come to us nothing's open you 1:14:12.000,1:14:15.120 need to sell to the public instead of 1:14:13.600,1:14:15.840 selling to restaurants because nothing's 1:14:15.120,1:14:18.800 open 1:14:15.840,1:14:19.679 um what can you do uh and we're through 1:14:18.800,1:14:22.880 this grant 1:14:19.679,1:14:23.760 system as well we we turned around an 1:14:22.880,1:14:26.719 e-commerce store 1:14:23.760,1:14:28.480 in a couple of weeks for them and like i 1:14:26.719,1:14:29.920 say they've now taken 1:14:28.480,1:14:31.520 well within the first three months they 1:14:29.920,1:14:32.480 took 25 000 pounds through that 1:14:31.520,1:14:34.880 e-commerce store 1:14:32.480,1:14:36.080 so that part of the business is suddenly 1:14:34.880,1:14:37.760 come out of nowhere 1:14:36.080,1:14:39.199 and they're making a good revenue stream 1:14:37.760,1:14:42.400 out of that and that 1:14:39.199,1:14:43.920 is the key to i think what 1:14:42.400,1:14:45.520 people should have done slightly 1:14:43.920,1:14:47.360 differently is actually 1:14:45.520,1:14:48.800 i mean for us we've been banging on 1:14:47.360,1:14:51.840 about digital for years 1:14:48.800,1:14:53.360 um but uh you know it's hard it's only 1:14:51.840,1:14:54.560 now that people go oh hang about you 1:14:53.360,1:14:56.719 know they're right about that 1:14:54.560,1:14:58.560 we really should get a store or have 1:14:56.719,1:14:59.679 some sort of presence or do something on 1:14:58.560,1:15:02.960 social media 1:14:59.679,1:15:05.520 or do some advertising on google ads or 1:15:02.960,1:15:06.560 facebook ads because that is really 1:15:05.520,1:15:10.159 really where 1:15:06.560,1:15:12.320 um people struggled and in that first 1:15:10.159,1:15:13.840 i mean believe me in that first lockdown 1:15:12.320,1:15:16.960 we were so busy 1:15:13.840,1:15:19.360 um we had the best um 1:15:16.960,1:15:20.960 we had actually the best three months in 1:15:19.360,1:15:21.760 terms of sales and profits we've ever 1:15:20.960,1:15:24.080 had because 1:15:21.760,1:15:25.679 we had so many websites coming asked 1:15:24.080,1:15:26.400 people asking for websites and different 1:15:25.679,1:15:29.920 things 1:15:26.400,1:15:31.360 it was just crazy um so hopefully 1:15:29.920,1:15:33.120 and now i'm locked down too i've seen 1:15:31.360,1:15:35.040 that people have got that 1:15:33.120,1:15:36.960 and they're they're ready for it which 1:15:35.040,1:15:38.960 is which has been good to see 1:15:36.960,1:15:40.719 thank you very much matt absolutely so i 1:15:38.960,1:15:41.120 think i think the message has been it's 1:15:40.719,1:15:42.880 not 1:15:41.120,1:15:45.040 it's not just about zoom it's a it's 1:15:42.880,1:15:46.560 about the acceleration of digital in all 1:15:45.040,1:15:48.239 its formats and and we've 1:15:46.560,1:15:50.000 we've seen that throughout the whole 1:15:48.239,1:15:51.920 whatever sectors 1:15:50.000,1:15:53.120 very many different sectors that maybe 1:15:51.920,1:15:55.120 they didn't think 1:15:53.120,1:15:57.040 could have the impact on their business 1:15:55.120,1:15:58.960 and it's proven to have it so 1:15:57.040,1:16:01.199 uh well well done businesses well done 1:15:58.960,1:16:03.679 for those levels of innovation 1:16:01.199,1:16:05.199 matt and jillian thank you so much for 1:16:03.679,1:16:07.520 your for your contributions 1:16:05.199,1:16:08.480 and for your grilling it's been it's 1:16:07.520,1:16:11.040 been really 1:16:08.480,1:16:12.400 very enjoyable and um i think the 1:16:11.040,1:16:14.239 insights that we've learned
