Get involved and support us
Do you have great memories of your time at the university? Do you want to shout about your experience as a student and encourage others to choose Portsmouth?
Even though you’ve already graduated from our university, there are many ways you can stay involved in our community – including by volunteering, planning a reunion, or fundraising for projects you feel passionate about and want to support.
Becoming an Alumni Volunteer comes with many benefits:
- A chance to stand out to future employers by adding volunteering to your CV/resume
- The feeling of knowing you’re helping prospective students choose higher education
- Valuable work experience
- Being part of a community of over 2,000 volunteers
- Giving back to the university
As an alumnus of the University of Portsmouth you could play a key part in supporting us to recruit new students through volunteering at one of our Open Days or Applicant Experience Days. Your first-hand experience studying with us, and your career to date, is valuable in helping prospective students make important decisions about their own future.
Register your interest in volunteering at an Open Day or Applicant Experience Day. We’ll be in touch when an opportunity arises.
If you’re an international alumnus, there may be opportunities to promote Portsmouth at events in your own country.
Many of our students get the chance to take a work placement as part of their course. As well as giving students experience in the workplace, a placement also benefits employers by offering them a chance to take on fresh, intelligent and enthusiastic young people. Our students have a high level of skill, passion and flexibility, and can offer applied and current knowledge from their studies.
Register your interest in providing a placement. We’ll forward your details onto the relevant Faculty who will be in touch for more details.
Earlier this year we launched a podcast series to inspire and educate alumni, students and the wider community. We're looking for alumni from all industries to volunteer a couple of hours of their time to come back to campus and record a podcast with a student interviewer.
If you’d like to get involved with our podcast series, please register your interest for filming and/or podcast opportunities and we’ll be in touch when an opportunity arises.
We’re looking for guest bloggers to write interesting, engaging and informative articles to feature on the alumni blog. From travelling and wellbeing advice, to how to succeed in specific industries, we want to give alumni, students and the local community inspiring tips, ideas and best practice advice.
Becoming a guest blogger helps develop your copywriting skills, showcases you as an expert in your area and could open up further business opportunities.
If you feel you have the relevant knowledge to create an engaging and informative blog post, please register your interest in becoming a guest blogger and we’ll be in touch when an opportunity arises.
Your success, and the success of all our alumni, acts as a major incentive for students applying to study at Portsmouth. Sharing your story gives future students an insight into the way your career has developed during, and after, your studies here at our university. You can share your story by providing a profile about your journey since leaving university or tell us an interesting news story.
Alumni profiles can take many forms including posters, videos and web-based case studies. These profiles are used to inspire and motivate current and prospective students and to highlight the talent that the university helps to foster.
Planning a reunion
Are you planning on coming back to Portsmouth and reminiscing about your student days? We can offer the following help with planning your reunion:
Organising walking tours of the campus
We can arrange for a student volunteer to meet you and give you and your group a tour of the campus. Walking tours last approximately 45 minutes and can cover any specific areas you wish to visit. We recommend you have a walking tour on a weekday.
Tracking down former classmates
We can search the alumni database to see if we're in touch with any former students from your cohort and send them a message on your behalf.
Arranging for relevant academics to attend where possible
We can contact the department you studied with and check if any lecturers are available to attend your reunion.
Offering discounted university accommodation
Some of the university accommodation is available for booking from June-September. Alumni receive 10% discount on bedrooms in Rees Hall and all bookings are subject to availability. Please contact the Conferences and Lettings Team by email or telephone 023 9284 4567.
Helping to publicise your event
Once you have organised a location and date, we can promote your reunion on our social media platforms to see if we can help recruit a few more alumni.
We love to hear about your reunions, both in Portsmouth and around the world, so please do send us images and a write-up so we can feature it on the alumni blog.
Through your support we are able to give students the best possible experiences and help them to reach their full potential. There are a number of ways that you can give back to the university you’ll always call home.
