Accounting and Financial Management Subject Group
In today's data rich global economy, accounting and financial management are central to business decision-making and analysis and are often referred to as 'the language of business'.
Our students learn about financial theory – from the core topics that form the basis of the accounting profession, to new topics of growing importance, such as analytics – and have access to industry-standard facilities, including our Bloomberg terminals. They also practice their skills through public-engagement activities, such as our 'Accounting in the Community' clinic, where they provide accounting advice and services to local charities and small businesses.
Our degrees align with professional bodies – such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) – so our students can receive the maximum number of exam exemptions. Students benefit from the practical accounting experience of our professionally-qualified staff, and the research activity within the group also informs our teaching – with many of our students graduating into successful careers within the industry.
We have a strong reputation in the field of forensic accounting, and run the MSc in Forensic Accounting in partnership with the University's Institute for Criminal Justice Studies. To find out more about the courses we offer, explore all our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

We're exploring how accounting can help organisations combat financial crime, deal with the challenges of new technologies and more effectively govern themselves – to the benefit of all.
We're studying the history of the accounting profession, and exploring how past generations faced down the major financial challenges of their time.
