I am a Senior Teaching Fellow for the University's Accounting and Finance subject group, with particular expertise in management accounting, financial systems, and financial management within organisations. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I have over 20 years' business experience in the public and private sectors in areas including defence, IT, outsourcing, and various service industries.

I continue to practise as a Chartered Management Accountant in my role as Director of an SME. I also work in a voluntary capacity as a Treasurer.

I began teaching at the University of Portsmouth in 2013. Prior to that I worked in finance at Centrica, within the New Energy division of British Gas, which specialised in microgeneration projects.

I gained the Chartered Institute of Management Accountancy (CIMA) practising certificate during 6 years working with a number of SMEs in a range of service sectors including retail, IT, documentary production and distribution. Prior to that I worked for Amey plc as a Commercial & Finance Director for a number of subsidiaries in the technology services/outsourcing division.

I completed the CIMA professional accountancy qualifications whilst working as a Financial Controller for the Ministry of Defence's research division, now known as Qinetiq.

Research Interests

My current area of research interest is teaching practice,  including group work and incorporating technology in the classroom.

Teaching Responsibilities

My teaching focus is management accounting, including the following modules:

  • Organisations & Accounting: an introduction to organisations and management accounting in business, for first year accounting and finance degree undergraduates.
  • Strategic Management Accounting: an in-depth look at how management accounting can be applied within organisations to support strategic decision making, aimed at final year undergraduate accounting and finance students.

I am currently developing our accounting systems course to incorporate SAP business resource planning software. The University is a member of the SAP University Alliances program and has a dedicated area, the SAP Next-Gen Lab, where students can gain practical skills.
