Giota is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Financial Management in the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Portsmouth since March 2019. Prior to her appointment, she was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Portsmouth Business School since January 2016. Moreover, she was previously a Visiting Research Assistant at King’s Business School and also undertook a research placement funded by the PBS Placement Scheme at the Center of Data Analytics in Finance and Macro at King’s Business School, King’s College London.

Giota holds a BA (Hons) degree in Economics from the University of Crete  (Greece), an MSc in Banking and Finance (Distinction) from the Surrey Business School, University of Surrey (UK) and a PhD in Economics and Finance from the University of Portsmouth  (UK).

Research Interests

Her current research interests  lie in the general area of Corporate Finance and Governance, with particular focus in examining cross-disciplinary issues such as formal and informal institutions, political finance, misconduct and environmental awareness. Her broader aim as a researcher is to disentangle the nexus between crucial issues faced by modern society and various aspects of the corporate world.

Recently published papers appear in journals such as the Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business Ethics and the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization

Teaching Responsibilities

Her teaching responsibilities involves modules related to Financial Management and Advanced Financial Management, as well as supervision of undergraduate and doctoral dissertations.
