Mahmoud joined the University of Portsmouth as a PT lecturer of Accounting and Finance in 2018. He won the Student Experience Excellence Lecturer Award 2019 whilst working at the University of Portsmouth. He has a bachelors and master’s degree in Accounting and Finance, along with over 15 years of experience between academic and professional careers - including time at the Egyptian Tax authority and various roles at universities in the UK and Egypt. experienced lecturer with teaching experience in higher education and professional experience in tax authorities since 2004, alongside with lecturing at the University of Portsmouth, International College of Portsmouth and Anglia Ruskin University.

Mahmoud is also supervising master’s student dissertations on forensic accounting and accounting and finance. He is currently a reviewer of International Journal of Emerging Markets, the Journal of Financial Reporting and Accounting, and the European Journal of Management and Business Economics.

Mahmoud brings to the post a combination of vast expertise, experience and enthusiasm validated by solid and relevant academic qualifications.


In 2004, I had a BA in Accounting, Menofiya University, Egypt.  

In 2005, I was a Tax inspector, Value Added Tax Authority, Ministry of Finance, Egypt.

In 2012, I had a MSc in Accounting and Finance, Suez Canal University, Egypt.

In 2018, Started my PhD in Accouting, University of Portsmouth, UK. 

In 2018, PT Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the University of Portsmouth. 

In 2019, Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the Anglia Ruskin University.

In 2019, PT Lecturer in Accounting at the International College Portsmouth (ICP).

In 2020. Lecturer of Accounting and Finance at the University of Westminster.

Research Interests

I am interested in research that related to the Audit Quality, Reporting Quality, Risk disclosure, Taxation and Narrative Disclosure. My research examines how the new audit regime affects the quantity and quality of narrative reporting. My Ph.D. research is interdisciplinary between the fields of Accounting and Auditing.

My current research interests include:

  • Independent Audit Report.
  • Corporate Narrative Reporting
  • International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Auditing and Taxation.
