My research interests centre around the visual implications of brain injury, developmental, eye movement and reading disorders and contact lenses & ocular surface disease.
My current role is as a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader to the University of Portsmouth's Master of Optometry programme. Following completion of a BSc in Applied Mathematics at the University of St Andrews I undertook the Masters of Optometry course at Aston University, achieving First Class Honours with a thesis on the evidence based management of ocular surface and lid margin disease and receiving the Johnson and Johnson Prize for Clinical Practice. I undertook the College of Optometrists Pre-Registration program in independent practice in Hampshire, following which I practiced as a primary care optometrist providing specialist dry eye, binocular vision, visual stress clinics in addition to routine optometric care. I have also been accredited to operate under the NHS community Primary Eye Acute Referral Service & Minor Eye Casualty Service.
I am a GOC registered Optometrist (01-28785), and Member of the College of Optometrists, Association of Optometrists and Orthoptic & Binocular Vision Association. I represent the University of Portsmouth on the UK Optometry Schools Council and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.
