Things you need to know about Clearing at the University of Portsmouth.

What is clearing?

Clearing is an opportunity to find the best course for you whether you've changed your mind, your results aren’t what you expected or you’re just thinking about university now.

Clearing is available to all students, UK, EU and international students from outside the EU.

How can I apply through Clearing?

You can apply through Clearing by calling our Admissions Team on the Clearing Hotline +44 (0)23 9284 8090. It’s useful if you have a UCAS Personal ID number to hand. But don’t worry if you don’t have this, or didn’t apply through UCAS.

How do I apply through Clearing if I already have a confirmed place?

You can still call the Clearing Hotline to speak to one of our advisors. If you’ve already accepted an offer through UCAS at another university, you’ll need to let them know so they’ll release you into Clearing.

Who is eligible to apply through Clearing?

Anyone can apply to the University through Clearing.

What courses are available through Clearing?

We keep our list of available courses up-to-date during Clearing. Browse all of our courses.

Entry requirements can change during Clearing. If you don’t meet the entry requirements displayed on our website, don’t be deterred from applying as we may still be able to offer you a place.

Do I have to pay a fee to apply through Clearing?

The University doesn't charge an application fee. If you’ve already applied through UCAS and have paid the full application fee, you will automatically be made eligible to use the Clearing service.

What information should I have available when I call the Clearing Line?

We will need to take your UCAS Personal ID (if you have one), as well as details of the qualifications that you have obtained to date. Please try to have these details with you before you make a call.

I am not able to apply through UCAS, can I still apply to Portsmouth through Clearing?

Yes you can. Please contact the clearing line on +44 (0)23 9284 8090 on or after 5 July to speak to an adviser.

Can I apply through Clearing and also defer for the following year?

We do consider applications for some courses for entry in 2019 through Clearing, however, please talk to a member of staff by calling the clearing line on +44 (0)23 9284 8090 to see if this option is available for your chosen course.

How do I organise my accommodation?

When you call us on the Clearing hotline, we can answer your accommodation questions and our Student Housing team will be on hand to help you find a home. Or you can email student.housing@port.ac.uk if you have questions now.

I’VE RECEIVED AN OFFER THROUGH CLEARING, HOW CAN I ACCEPT IT?

If you’re a UCAS applicant, log into UCAS Track and add a Clearing choice. You can do this using the details in our offer e-mail before the deadline provided.

If you’re a non-UCAS applicant, use the link provided in the offer e-mail and complete our online Record of Prior Acceptance form.

What if I am on holiday when I get my exam results?

You can still contact the University to apply through Clearing. We can send correspondence via email, so we’ll still be able to get in touch with you.

Do I need to send copies of my qualifications?

Yes. If successful with your application, we’ll let you know how you to get your qualifications to us.

I will be under the age of 18 years old on the 1st September 2018, can I still apply to Portsmouth?

By law, anyone under the age of 18 is a minor. Therefore university registration of such a person requires that parental/guardian consent should be completed, signed and submitted for applicants who will be under 18 at the start of the academic year. If your parents are living outside the UK you will be required to provide the contact details of a guardian within the UK. Forms and guidance will be sent by email when we make you an offer.

What are the entry requirements for the course I wish to apply for?

Full details of entry requirements for our courses are available on our website. However, these entry requirements should only be viewed as a guide and can change during Clearing. If you don’t meet the entry requirements displayed on the website, please don’t be deterred from applying as we may still be able to offer you a place.

Is it too late to apply for a student loan?

You’ll need to apply for your student loan as soon as possible but it’s not guaranteed that you’ll receive your loan before your course starts. Please contact Student Finance England as soon as possible.

I am an international student, who can I contact for more information?
