Due to the Immigration Act 1971, you may need to register with the police when you start your studies with us. You'll need to do this within 7 days of arriving in the UK.

On-campus registration

If you arrive in Portsmouth during September and October, the local police service will be registering students on campus. You'll be able to book an appointment through the Global Office.

Registration at police headquarters

If you get here after October, you'll need to go to the Hampshire Police Headquarters in Winchester to register:

At your appointment, you'll need to bring:

  • £34 to cover the fee – it's better to pay with a bank card or credit card
  • Your passport and visa
  • Proof of your address, such as your housing contract
  • Your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) statement

If you make any of the following changes, you must update your Police Registration Certificate:

  • Change of address
  • Change of marital status
  • Change or extension of visa
  • New passport
  • New course or change of university
  • Change of nationality
  • Change of employment, business, profession, or occupation

You'll need to go to the local police station on Winston Churchill Avenue in Portsmouth with your Police Registration Certificate for updating. If you fail to keep your police registration certificate up to date, you'll get a warning.

Finally, if you have been out of the UK for 12 months or longer, you'll need to obtain a new Police Registration Certificate on arrival in the UK.
