Exploring the city and the University

This is your chance to explore. You can do a guided tour of the campus, giving you a feel for the University and city, or venture out on your own.

The University Library is open for our visitors and you can explore the building in your own time. Our library houses over 380,000 books alongside electronic resources, journals and more.

If you're interested in seeing our sports facilities just pop into Spinnaker Building or St Paul's gym and we'd be happy to show you around.

Accommodation talks and tours

Moving away from home is a big step and we want to make sure you find the perfect home from home.

Student housing talks, covering your uni housing essentials, take place in the Nuffield Building at:

  • 10.30am
  • 11.30am
  • 12.15pm

You can also pop into our halls of residence to take a look at where you could be living or explore your options in private accommodation.

Remember, you’re guaranteed a room in halls if you apply as a new, full-time undergraduate student starting in September or October 2019 and make us your firm choice.

Information Fair

For the lowdown on everything from support services to student finance, head to the Information Fair. It’s open from 9:30am-3:00pm in the Students’ Union.

You can:

  • Ask our accommodation team about housing, halls of residence and sharing or lodging in private accommodation
  • Chat with our financial experts to breeze through Student Finance
  • Learn about the support services that’ll keep you happy and healthy during your studies
  • Speak to our admissions team, who’ll help you figure out where your course could take you

Refreshments

Have a drink on us! You’ll get a wristband when you check in, which gives you and your guests free tea and coffee at our University cafes. You can choose between a hot and cold lunch option too, also on us.

You’ll find our cafes in Eldon Building, Park Building, Dennis Sciama Building, Cafe Coco (by the Student's Union) and Portland Building. They'll be open throughout the day.

If you’re out and about in Portsmouth, there are loads of cafes and restaurants throughout Guildhall Walk, Southsea and Gunwharf Quays.

Getting here

Park and ride

Portsmouth has a fantastic Park and Ride service to save you the hassle of finding parking in the city. It costs just £4 for the day. You’ll find it off the M275 at the entrance to the city.

The buses depart every 4 minutes during peak times and every 7 minutes during off-peak times.

You can catch the University bus service that runs from the Park and Ride car park to just outside the Students’ Union on Cambridge Road. Look out for our friendly student ambassadors (dressed in purple) who will help.

Please allow around 20 minutes from parking to arrival on campus.

Trains

The closest station is Portsmouth and Southsea. It’s a 10-minute walk from the Student's Union and close to all buildings on campus.

Car parking

To get to the University, take the M275 into Portsmouth (signed 'Portsmouth West'), whether approaching from the east (A3(M)/A27) or the west (M27 Junction 12). Ignore the M27/A27 junctions signed to Southsea and Hilsea.

Parking options

On Saturday Applicant Experience Days you can park in University car parks for free, but spaces are limited. The locations are:

  • Anglesea rear car park – PO1 3DJ
  • Eldon car park – PO1 2DJ
  • Melbourne Place car park – PO1 2UP
  • Milldam car park – PO1 3AS
  • Nuffield car park – PO1 2ED
  • St George’s car park – PO1 2HY
  • University House car park – PO1 2UP

On-street, pay-and-display parking is available close to the registration venue. There are also public car parks throughout the City. There's more information about city centre car parking on the Portsmouth City Council website.
