A welcome message from Brenda Tournier

Let's face it.  Few, if any of us, have ever experienced anything like what we are experiencing now. You've probably heard the word 'unprecedented' more times than you care to think about and you've probably felt at least a little unsettled as many of the things we take for granted – how we work, interact with each other, access goods and services – are challenged.

These are indeed extraordinary times. It's all quite surreal when you think that, just a few months ago, we were celebrating Christmas and New Year's with family and friends.

In Alumni & Advancement, we believe there is no better time, no greater need for community than right now. As you self-isolate, work from home and seek, still, to contribute to your communities large and small, we hope you will share with us your own thoughts, ideas and web-based resources that we can pass on within the community.

I am new to Portsmouth and, with little chance of meeting you face-to-face in the near future, may I take this opportunity to say hello and how pleased I am to be here with you. I am incredibly impressed with the University I have joined, its commitment not just to teaching and research, but also to making a civic and global difference. I look forward, over the months and years to come, to offering you pathways to engage in that commitment in ways that are meaningful to you.

With warm regards and a very sincere elbow bump,

Brenda Tournier

Director of Alumni & Advancement
