Johnny Lochland, Principal Lecturer in the School of Film, Media and Communication at the University of Portsmouth had his short film played last December on the screen at Fratton Park, Portsmouth Football Club’s stadium.

Johnny directed and produced a short film to accompany a song for the artist Minute Taker and his touring audio-visual show “Wolf Hours”. The narrative of the music video is centred on football while exploring gay characters playing at grassroots level and highlighting some of the issues within the game and its heteronormative culture.

The video was shot at the University’s Langstone sports facility with equipment from the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, put to use along with the skills of BA (Hons) Film Production alumni Matt Lewis, Adam Thomas, Lawrence Rowe and Charley Petty, as well as current students Ellie McKay-Cross and Emir Cetinoglu. The music video also features an evocative choreography from BA (Hons) Musical Theatre graduates Antonis Katoikos and Ellen Knowles.

It was fantastic to work with the talent emerging from the Film Production course, and make something that resonates on every level.

Johnny Lochland,

In addition, the lecturer utilised the University’s relationship with The Young Creatives Portsmouth for the casting while Portsmouth FC provided the kits worn by the actors.
