It’s written on the wall of the office and sums up the ethos of My Learning Cloud perfectly. This is a tech company that has built a digital learning environment dedicated to knowledge and skills development in the health and social care sector – and their culture seems to reflect the best of both worlds.
In the early 2000s, there were a number of digital companies that could see the potential application and scope for growth that elearning might present. However, early versions limited by technology, and perhaps to an extent by experience, resulted in these elearning platforms sometimes being a bit clunky.
Cutting Edge Online Learning Platform
In 2012 Steven Embleton launched My Learning Cloud, an e-learning platform he was convinced would make a difference in the field of health and social care. With his passion for improving health and social care and a conviction that, with the right platform filled with content from leading experts, online learning could become a transformative experience for the learner, their organisation and most importantly the customers of these organisations.
My Learning Cloud now has a team of fourteen staff, including six developers, and has been based at Portsmouth Technopole since August 2019. With over 90 published elearning courses for the social care sector, it has become the leading provider of social care training in the UK. My Learning Cloud is designed to completely manage a care organisation’s learning and development by giving them visibility and a way to track staff compliance.
Managers can create 'learning pathways' for staff which then automates their administration. My Learning Cloud's 2019 customer survey tells us that their customers believe they save over 7 hours a week in admin time by using the system. It has one-click report generation for over 40 reports, including one that manages external assessments.
In October 2019 their contribution was recognised in their award for 'Leaders in Care'.
Steven's respect for health and social care professionals and appreciation for the importance of their work drives both him and his team.
My Learning Cloud also won Business of the Year and Medium Business of the Year Awards at The News Business Excellence Awards on 21 February 2020.
New Portsmouth base with other Tech Entrepreneurs
In 2019, the company outgrew its space at the You Trust building in Kingston Cresent and they moved into their new offices at The Portsmouth Technopole in August 2019. Here they benefit from becoming not only part of the Portsmouth Technopole Community of Entrepreneurs but also the wider Innovation Connect community which brings its own benefits such as access to the Future Technology centre at the University of Portsmouth.
Dean Pascall, Technopole Manager for Oxford Innovation who manages the centre, said, ‘We are really excited about the work My Learning Cloud is doing here at The Portsmouth Technopole. As a tech company, they are a great fit for us and the wider Innovation Connect group of Innovation Centres.’
