Although still in their infancy, Degree Apprenticeships are already delivering on their objective to benefit businesses by improving the skills of their employees.

One success story has been Hampshire County Council's Apprenticeship Development Manager, Trevor MacAlonan, who is half way through his Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship. Trever has already noticed the impact of the course on his working practices.

Trevor MacAlonan reflects on his apprenticeship experience

Trevor says “the programme has filled me with so much confidence, it has changed me professionally and personally. I feel more equipped to do my job, with a toolbox of modern management techniques and leadership approaches. The programme has undone the mystique of leadership and management, and put it in very practical and understandable terms, that I have been able to translate back into the workplace.”

"I’ve really enjoyed the course, despite managing a very busy role and the pressures of home schooling during lockdown. I would highly recommend the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship for aspiring or experienced leaders, who would like to become experts in the field of business leadership and a qualified manager with Chartered status credentials.”

Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2021

As a University, we have always engaged with employers and valued workplace learning. The introduction of our Degree Apprenticeships has embedded these values further.

Over the past 4.5 years the growth of our Degree Apprenticeships has been phenomenal – increasing from 7 apprentices on the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship in September 2016 to 600 in 2021. A further 125 apprentices are enrolled on our Police apprenticeship.

We now have 15 apprenticeships offering a powerful combination of academic and workplace learning to over 700 apprentices. The courses deliver on objectives to teach knowledge, skills and behaviours that translate to increased productivity in the workplace.

We provide the opportunity for apprentices to learn, develop and enjoy their apprenticeship journey and their future careers.
