The university has been so supportive of my professional development whilst studying. I applied to the programme shortly after my start-up received funding from the university in partnership with Santander. Through this, I was paired with my relationship manager Holly Price, she has been incredibly supportive of my career growth. I hadn't heard about the programme until Holly suggested I apply.

The programme itself was challenging! I am not the most money-savvy person, but I found it extremely useful and insightful. There are dozens of modules available, though you only have to complete three for the scholarship. The programme grants you certificates for each module you complete which I have used to pad out my LinkedIn profile.

Congratulations

Well done to the four Portsmouth students who successfully completed the Santander Universities Black Inclusion programme.

Four University of Portsmouth students took part in Santander Universities Black Inclusion programme, an online learning experience shared by over 1,800 university students and graduates of Black and Black Mixed ethnic identities from across the UK. The purpose of the programme is to boost participants’ financial skills, professional development and employability, covering everything from finance fundamentals to Green Finance and Blockchain. Congratulations to those who took part and will now take what they learnt into their personal and professional lives.

The Santander Universities Black Inclusion Programme

Some 1,878 students and recent graduates from across the UK participated in the programme, presented in partnership with Santander Universities UK and Finance Unlocked. Delivered via an on-demand learning platform, it provided students with training and career advice from leading finance industry specialists, with a focus on the development of financial skills. After eight hours of learning and assessment, participants received a digital certificate along with continued access to resources for an additional four months. The top 30 students were awarded £1,500 Santander Scholarships

The Black Inclusion programme reflects Santander’s commitment to equality, inclusivity and diversity and to helping ensure that students from diverse backgrounds are given access to resources that support their studies, work and employment. The University of Portsmouth shares this commitment, working to expand opportunities and resources that will narrow existing awarding gaps.

Afiya’s experience of the programme

I am using all I have learnt to support the development of my business further. I would definitely recommend that fellow Black students apply to the inclusion programme.
