Rising through the ranks

We spoke to Liam Griffiths, Marketing Manager at Support on the Spot, who has been with the team since 2016 and rose through the ranks, first joining as a helpdesk technician, but then quickly progressing to team leader before being appointed as the Marketing Manager in March 2020.

While recruitment has been critical to the company’s growth in recent years, so too has been the development of their existing staff. 

Developing talent within

The company’s focus on developing the talent they have within includes valuing the existing team members' professional development and giving them clear opportunities for each individual's career development.

The company have also just promoted Tom Carter, a former helpdesk member, to Managing Director. 

Continuous learning and development

Liam said: "In the IT sector, learning has to be almost continuous as there's a constant stream of new products being released."

Liam and his colleague Joel have both recently completed accredited training for Windows Virtual Desktop (Microsoft’s Cloud-based desktop and virtual app service).

The future

Liam tells us that with Windows 7 becoming ‘end of life’, the time is right for the public sector to move into the Cloud and onto Windows Virtual Desktop. He says that this will help them enormously with their IT provision and should help to make savings.

We’ve been at the Portsmouth Technopole since 2013 and about 18 months ago upgraded into a new larger office on the ground floor to better accommodate our growing team.
