The Basics of Writing - Writing an appropriate email

On the face of it, writing an email should be a doddle. After all, it is a message you dash off quickly, with little thought as it is not a permanent document and will quickly be lost in the ether, right?
Well, no. Email has taken over from letters as the primary source of communication and, although not as formal as a hard copy letter, it is important to get it right to prevent misunderstanding or offense, and to ensure that the content has impact and will be replied to. In some instances, emails are kept as part of a company’s records and/or to comply with relevant legislation.
