Make lasting positive impacts on legal systems, societies and the lives of individuals
Do you fight for what you believe in? Are you passionate about making a difference to people’s lives?
With a law degree, you have an opportunity to change the world. And many options are available to you beyond the legal profession.
Why study Law?
Studying law gives you the opportunity to develop skills and explore all parts of life. It'll give you a platform to launch your legal career. But it's much more than that. You'll build abstract reasoning and communication skills, while strengthening your understanding of humanities and social sciences.
You'll explore how the world governs personal, social, economic and political relationships through the use of rules, and the very nature of those relationships.
What will you study?
Studying a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree at the University of Portsmouth explores the English Law System, including an introduction to Criminal and Civil law. You can also choose optional modules such as:
- Employment Law
- Social Care Law
- Company Law
- Family and Child Law
You'll build an understanding of law, and learn how to apply this knowledge in practice in many parts of the public, private and voluntary sectors.
Can you only work as a lawyer or barrister?
A Law degree would give you the skills and knowledge needed to progress in legal careers. But it doesn't stop there. There are many graduate employment opportunities in other roles and sectors, such as:
- Legal secretary
- Human Resources manager
- Lettings negotiator
- Civil Service administrator
- Data analyst
- External auditor
- Forensic computer analyst
- Company secretary
