Prithy's story

BA (Hons) Illustration

I set out originally to study biology, but I couldn’t see a future in it. I’d always done well in art at school, so I decided to switch my course a week before I enrolled, without really knowing what the Illustration degree had in store.

I wanted to come to Portsmouth anyway – especially as it's by the sea – but I never thought I'd have such a great experience, and it turned out to be the best decision I could ever make.

My time at the University of Portsmouth has been nothing short of amazing and it has helped me grow as a person and understand who I am as a creative. The Illustration course has taught me to get out of my comfort zone and the way my art has progressed is great proof. Also putting myself out there by joining societies has helped me meet the best people.

I’m very grateful to all the tutors I’ve had over three years who have helped me realise that I love printing and making Risographs, which I wouldn’t have known about if I hadn’t studied at the University of Portsmouth.

I’m excited about the next step as an illustrator and I’m planning to do a masters in Manchester as I love the city, especially because of its history in the music scene.
