Student mentoring another student

Moving UP Mentoring Programme

For young people in year 12 or studying level 3 qualifications with care experience

We're very excited to launch ‘Moving UP’, a mentoring programme for young people that have experience of care or who are estranged from their families.

We know that individual experiences of care impact people from all walks of life in many different ways. This programme looks to celebrate that richness of experience by matching care experienced university student mentors with care experienced or estranged students in years 12-13, or studying level 3 (year 1) courses.

What is Moving UP?

  • Moving UP is all your personal development – here to help with things like goal-setting, pathway-planning and exploring your exciting future options
  • You'll choose a mentor to work with and the topics you'd like to explore and work together
  • Your mentor will be someone with similar, lived experiences of care or estrangement

How will it work?

Mentoring will take place online using a secure platform, and there'll be a mixture of 1:1 and group sessions.

Join us today and the programme will run until the end of term in July 2021

After you register your interest, we'll be in touch to discuss your preferences for mentoring and what you’d like from the programme.

Who can apply to take part?

You don't have to meet the legal definition of a care leaver – if you've previously been in care (for any time period) or are now estranged from your parents, you're eligible to apply.

You don't need to have applied to the University of Portsmouth to get involved. We'll be here to support you with university applications, regardless of where you want to study.
