Fire Safety Short course

Overview

This course will cover fire safety management, fire strategies and policies, their purpose structure and content. There'll be links to organisational health and safety and legislation such as the Fire Safety Order, Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations, the Housing Act, Licensing, Building Regulations, Construction Design and Management, Health and Safety at Work and other related regulations.

You'll learn about compliance - and consequences of non-compliance, fire risk assessment, the process and requirements of 'responsible, competent and relevant persons' and the meaning of competence. And, you'll learn about the Management, Occupancy, Construction, Time, Exits, Travel (MOCTET) system and Fire Safety Management Standards and Guidance.

Teaching

Dave Dunford served in the UK Fire and Rescue Service from 1979 to 2013, progressing through the rank structure to his finishing position as Manager with responsibility for the management of a territorial service delivery group. This included overseeing the enforcement of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order. He was instrumental in the development of the service’s Incident Command Framework providing him with proven skills in critical incident management and leadership. Dave is a member if the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers and is on their independent register of fire risk assessors. He also works as a part time lecturer at Portsmouth University on their Crisis and Disaster Management Masters' programme. Dave also works as an independent fire safety consultant, risk assessor and trainer.
