Visa requirements

Information about visa requirements for students going abroad

If you're studying or working abroad as part of your degree, you may need to apply for a visa for the country which you're travelling to. You should always check in advance if you need a visa, as visa processing times can vary depending on where you're going.

Studying/Working abroad in the EU/EEA

If your total stay in Europe will be less than 90 days

Even if your period of stay in the EU/EEA will be for less than 90 days, you must still check if you need a visa for work or study. Many EU countries will not require you to have a visa, but for some countries you may need a visa to study or work for less than 90 days.

Check the UK Government Foreign Travel Advice for further details.

You must ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date that you travel.

If you hold a Tier 4 or Student Route visa

You'll need to ensure that you have six months left on your Tier 4/Student Visa after the end of your work or study placement.

You must ensure that you use the correct visa that permits study or work as appropriate. If you hold a visa which allows you to travel to certain countries (such as a multi-entry Schengen visa) as a tourist you may not be able to use this visa for study or work.

A tier 4 or Student visa for the UK does not give you permission to study or work in other countries, you must apply for the appropriate visa for the country and the activity you will be undertaking.
