Graduate School strategic PhD scholarships
Our Faculty-funded PhD projects are now CLOSED for 2020 entry. The details below are for information only.
What are Strategic PhD Scholarships?
Our new Strategic PhD Scholarships are fully-funded projects that explore the University's strategic priorities. Each seeks to address an important and urgent issue facing society and the planet.
Cross-faculty and inter-disciplinary by design, these strategic projects also represent an opportunity to build strong research relationships across the University, and with our external research partners.
These directly-funded studentships cover tuition fees and an annual maintenance grant of £15,009 (UKRI 2019/20 rate) for 3 years. Scholarship recipients will also receive up to £3,000 for research project costs/consumables during the duration of the programme, and will be expected to take part in cohort-related activities including joint training, social and related events.
Programmes of research
The fully-funded Strategic PhD projects are split into distinct programmes of research.
A sustainable city initiative led by Professor Steve Fletcher, with projects based across our Science, Business and Law, Creative and Cultural Industries and Humanities and Social Sciences faculties.
Developing medical technologies
Led by Professor Gordon Blunn, with projects based across our Technology and Science faculties.
