Keeping an eye out for you

We're here to help you navigate uni life, and offer you whatever support you need to feel at home

Coming to uni is exciting, but it can be challenging too, especially if you're moving to a new city. That's why we're here to help and support you whenever you need it: because your health and wellbeing matters to us.

Your wellbeing

Our Student Wellbeing Service gives you that extra bit of emotional support when you need it. We offer workshops, courses, advice, mental health support and counselling to help and guide you.

The team includes mental health and wellbeing advisers, counsellors and a psychiatrist. All halls of residence also have a Residence Life Team, who offer welfare support advice and help to residents within all the Halls of Residence.

First year students living in private housing can also access the service, and the Residence Life Team also provides on-call, out-of-hours pastoral care 7 days a week.

Wellbeing Cafe

We run a Wellbeing Cafe once a week at Cafe Coco, next to the Students’ Union building.

It's a friendly meeting place where you can grab a free tea or coffee and meet other students who want to improve their wellbeing. People from the Wellbeing Service and student-led Wellbeing Society are also available for a chat.

Wellbeing Festival

We hold a Wellbeing Festival in the Students’ Union once a year, to showcase how we can help you stay happy and healthy at uni. You can try out activities that improve your wellbeing and get information and informal advice too.

Reflection, thought and prayer

Our multi-faith Chaplaincy is available to all students as a quiet space for reflection, somewhere to have lunch with friends or to get guidance from our Chaplains.

We have a multi-faith quiet room and Muslim Prayer Rooms, with associated ablutions, for quiet reflection and personal prayer. Pop in for free tea and coffee any weekday from 9am, or contact us anytime for support.

Staying healthy

As well as a GP surgery on campus, there are many doctors’ surgeries and dentists nearby where you can register.

For keeping fit, our sports facilities include a 100-station gym and daily exercise classes. We also offer discounted entry to local swimming pools.

Financial support

If you need help applying for funding or managing your finances at uni, our Student Finance Centre provides expert advice and guidance on money-related issues. We're available 5 days a week, all year round.

The team includes advisers who are members of the Institute of Money Advisers and the National Association of Student Money Advisers. They can give specialist advice in areas such as dealing with debt and benefit eligibility.

There's also a generous University Support Fund to help students who have short-term financial difficulties.

Nursery facilities

If you have children aged 6 months to 5 years, our on-site nursery provides full-day childcare.
