Whether you’re a top athlete or just want to keep fit, our sports facilities and support will help you achieve your health and sporting goals.
Every week, our teams take part in leagues and competitions against other universities. You could even represent the University in British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) competitions.

University sports leagues
If you want something less competitive, you can pit yourself against other students and staff teams in our campus leagues.
You can play five-a-side football, badminton, tennis and more.
Fancy a taster session before committing to a sports club? Or just want to get active while you have fun with friends?
We offer a weekly schedule of free and low-cost social sport where we provide all equipment and instruction. Perfect if you’re a beginner.
Sports facilities and classes
Our 100+ station gym has the latest fitness equipment, including cardiovascular and resistance machines, and abdominal and free weights areas.
Other sports facilities include:

- tennis and squash courts
- floodlit hockey and 3G pitches
You can also access water sports, swimming pools and running facilities through partnered local sports clubs.
New sports facility
From 2021, you can use our £50 million indoor sports facility, featuring:
- 8-lane swimming pool
- 8-court sports hall
- extensive gym with 175 fitness stations,
- multipurpose studios
- climbing wall with bouldering facility
- ski simulator
Sports and exercise classes
Our sport instructors lead around 50 exercise classes every week in our air-conditioned studios. You can do classes in everything from piloxing and cardio-cycling to yoga and pilates.
St Paul's Gym
If you’re a talented athlete, you could get a Sports Scholarship worth up to £3,000. This gives financial and specialist support to help you maximise your sporting potential.
You’ll get access to physiotherapy, expert sports advice and analysis, strength and conditioning coaching, one-on-one mentor support, clothing and more.
Coaching and volunteering
Sports coaching, officiating and volunteering is great fun and can improve your job prospects.
