Data Protection Act 2018

The University of Portsmouth is a data controller in terms of the 2018 legislation. The Student Finance Centre follows University policy in matters of data protection. 
The data requested in this form is required to allow staff in the Student Finance Centre to consider your eligibility for help from Student Finance Centre Funds.

We believe that it is necessary to process the data we have requested in order to perform the contract you enter into when applying to the Student Finance Centre funding streams. We will use your contact details to inform you of the outcome of your application and to pass on any information we believe will be useful to you. Your data will not be passed to any third party outside the University without your consent, except when the University is required to do so by law, but you should be aware that your data may be passed to appropriate colleagues within the University in the event that you submit a complaint/appeal to the University

All data concerned with this application will be kept for six years from the date of your last award or from the last application submission if unsuccessful. We will anonymise your data as soon as we are able and then will use that anonymised data for statistical purposes.

Care Leaver Bursary

Please note:

  • If your application is successful, your eligibility for the Care Leaver Bursary will be confirmed for the duration of the course (including any placement/sandwich/repeat years of study). However, the Student Finance Centre reserves the right to withdraw it in extreme circumstances (such as disciplinary action). You will be notified in writing in the unlikely event that this occurs.
  • You will not need to apply to get the Bursary in future years of your course but you will need to ensure your bank details are up-to-date.
  • A check will be carried out prior to each payment to ensure you are still in attendance on your course.
  • If your personal circumstances change, your eligibility for the award will be reassessed.
  • You will not receive the award during any period of interrupted study.
  • If you transfer to another course or if you change mode of attendance (e.g. from full-time to part-time), your eligibility for the award will be reassessed.
  • If you withdraw from the course your award will cease.
  • If you would like the award paid into a different account you should update your bank account details on your Student View at least two weeks before the payment is scheduled.

Stand Alone Bursary

Please note:

  • If your application is successful, your eligibility for the Stand Alone Bursary will be confirmed for the duration of the academic year. You will need to re-apply in future years of your course and your eligibility will depend on your circumstances at the start of each academic year (including placement/sandwich/repeat years of study).
