Summary

I am Director of Learning at Work covering two areas:

Degree Apprenticeships - I oversee degree apprenticeships across the University setting the strategy, employer engagement and marketing.

Learning at Work - I manage the department with a team of academics and administration staff.

A Manufacturing Engineer by trade, I have worked for various engineering companies, such as, Smith Industries, City Technology and Sifam Ltd with the main role of implementing new products, lean manufacturing and reducing costs.  I studied at Coventry University from 1990 to 1994 and gained BEng (Hons) Manufacturing Systems Engineering.  After 10 years working in the engineering industry I moved into the education sector working for a small training provider, then Head of Department for two FE colleges.  I joined University of Portsmouth in June 2016 with responsibility of launching degree apprenticeships in the Faculty of Technology.  Since August 2017 in the role of Director of Learning at Work, with two main responsibilities:  Degree Apprenticeships and Learning at Work.

I teach various subjects, ranging from Engineering to Business.  Currently I support distance learning students who are studying on Engineering and Business courses and support them on work based projects.  I also teach on CPD courses, including Business Improvement Techniques and Lean Manufacturing subjects.

Although not directly involved in research activities I take a key interest in latest research, especially based on online and distance learning, leadership and managament and engineering.  I support activities across the University related to research.
