In this session you will experience what life as a student at Portsmouth would be like. You'll meet your future lecturers as well as current students on the course, and take part in a hands on activity to give you a flavour of what studying on this course would look like.

You will be introduced to the process of a construction project from inception to completion and beyond. Through group activities and discussion, you will learn about the roles of professional civil engineers, surveyors and construction managers at different stages of the project, using a planned new University building as a case study.

You'll take part in an activity in our CISCO, VMware networking with infrastructure security lab, identifying appropriate real world network and CISCO Firepower cybersecurity equipment.

This session will give you the opportunity to experience a typical practical session in our main undergraduate teaching lab. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions about the course and your time at university whilst learning more about the course from staff.

First you'll get the opportunity to setup and take measurements using the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) which is used for the surface characterisation of micro and nanostructures, followed by a demonstration of the Magnetron plasma sputtering system which is used for the synthesis of nanomaterials.

You will also take part in an exercise where you will derive the distances and ages of star clusters in the Milky Way from photometry of individual stars.
