Dr Lalit Maurya
Biography
I am a Senior Research Associate and a member of the CREATE (Computing Research Accelerator Team) within the School of Computing at the University of Portsmouth. Previously, I served as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at University College London (UCL), UK. I hold a bi-nationally supervised PhD in Engineering, specializing in Computer Vision and Machine Learning, from the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), India, and Aberystwyth University, Wales, UK. My PhD research focused on the development of non-contact breathing rate detection using thermal imaging, including clinical validation on healthy adults and neonates. Specifically, I developed a deep learning framework for automated region of interest selection and tracking using thermal and visible imaging for breathing monitoring.
I have a profound interest in image processing, machine learning, and the development of deep learning models. In recent years, I have expanded my expertise to include respiration rate detection using thermal imaging, multi-modal image registration and fusion, image enhancement and segmentation using metaheuristic algorithms, object detection and tracking, apnea detection, and 2D and 3D photoacoustic image registration.
