Dr Nick Pamment
Biography
Dr Nicholas Pamment is a Principal Lecturer in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Whilst he teaches across the core curriculum, he specialises in wildlife crime and the Illegal Wildlife Trade, alongside green criminology and environmental justice. He has a strong applied focus and is passionate about capacity building and the development of robust, effective and human-centred conservation initiatives. In particular, he delivers courses on the Wildlife Crime Leadership Initiative, a training programme that builds leadership abilities among enforcement officers to better counter wildlife trafficking, led by the Wildlife Conservation Society. He also works closely with Botswana Police Service, through the accreditation and development of a pre-service training programme.
In 2015, alongside Dr Caroline Cox, he launched the Ivory Project in the House of Commons, which considers the role played by the UK’s antiques trade in the sale of ivory. Dr Nicholas Pamment is also a deputy lead for the Victimology and Ecological Justice Research Group, bringing together researchers within the areas of wildlife crime, conservation and climate change. He has published within the areas of Birds of Prey persecution, wildlife forensics, the regulation of ivory markets, research methodology and youth crime. He regularly presents his research at national and international conferences. Most recently, he was invited to present a keynote address at the Climate, Energy, and Environmental Justices and Transitions Conference, held at the European University Institute in Florence.
