Summary

I hold a PhD from the University of Manchester, UK. My doctoral thesis focused on the role of the language in literature and public discourse to construct and maintain ideologies about gender roles in the context of Western (America) and Eastern (Turkish) societies of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I have previously taught courses in the areas of language, literature, gender and Middle Eastern Studies at universities in Manchester, Brighton and Istanbul.

At the University of Portsmouth, I teach (and supervise) on a wide range of units related to linguistics; communication and cultural studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

My current research looks at the connections between language, gender, and migration in the UK.
