Summary

My current role as Professor and Dean of Digital and Distributed Learning at the University of Portsmouth is grounded in my commitment to generating institutional change and innovation at pace and at scale. In doing so, I lead and enable transformational learning through inspirational teaching across the University – and beyond.

I have a proven track record of leading and implementing large-scale, student-centred, evidence-based transformation – and bringing stakeholders with me in the process. My position as an established reference point in the sector is evidenced through my impact as Dean of Learning and Teaching at Northampton, my leadership of Portsmouth’s innovative Digital Success Plan for Learning and Teaching, my co-authorship of the new Education Strategy, my research into active blended learning (ABL) and my global engagement. I am a visible and highly experienced trained mentor who leads from the front line. I continue to draw on research, my colleagues, students and the academic community as essential sources of inspiration and growth.

The conceptualisation of and research into active blended learning (ABL) both at Northampton and Portsmouth (see research outputs) is one of my major contributions to transforming the teaching profession and improving student outcomes. This work is now central to Portsmouth’s blended and connected approach, including the pedagogic redesign rollout, the new programme approval process and the University’s new London Campus.
