Summary

Dr Andrii Zharikov is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth and the School of Law's Departmental Director for Postgraduate Research.

Andrii is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of the Society of Legal Scholars. 

Biography

Andrii achieved his Bachelor in Law degree (with honours) at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine) and LL.M. in International Trade Law (with distinction) at the University of Essex. Following his masters studies Andrii practised law in Ukraine where he was involved in various projects in banking & finance, international trade, dispute resolution and corporate law.

In 2016 Andrii was awarded a Dean’s Scholarship by Aston University in support of his doctoral research project. In November 2019 he successfully defended his thesis (with no corrections) before the panel of experts comprising Professor James Devenney and Stuart Weinstein.

Research interests

Andrii’s research areas include commercial law broadly defined, alternative dispute resolution, trade finance, banking law and the theory of lex mercatoria. Andrii is ready to supervise doctoral students in the above areas.

Teaching responsibilities

Andrii is a module coordinator for the Theory of Alternative Dispute Resolution module. He is a member of teaching teams for the International Commercial & Investment Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Skills modules. He is regularly supervising postgraduate dissertations and undergraduate legal projects.
