I myself am a graduate of the University of Portsmouth qualifying in 2005 as a diagnostic radiographer. Prior to my current teaching role I worked at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, primarily in interventional radiology. Since joining the SHSSW I have gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and completed a MA in Health and Social Care Management at the Henley School of Business.
In my current role I am responsible for operational oversight and strategic expertise within the pre-registration, Allied Health programme area of the school, which includes: MSc and BSc Social Work, MOptometry, BSc Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiography, BSc and Cert HE Paramedic Science and BSc Operating Department Practice. I work closely with the Associate Head Education, Professional Practice Lead and External Promotion and Liaison Lead to ensure that programme delivery is concordant with university regulations and policy and meets Faculty and School performance indicators and other internal, operational targets. The role also takes responsibility for implementing programme action plans, relevant to ASQER, NSS, EVASYS and Health Education England. The role is also responsible for ensuring that regulatory body annual review reports and notifications, for the courses they oversee, are completed and recorded.
I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and continue to be registered as a diagnostic radiographer with the Health and Care Professions Council.
I am a part-time PhD student investigating the 'work readiness' of students in line with the Health and Care Professions Council regulatory requirements set around communication, on pre-registration allied health undergraduate programmes.
