My doctoral research is broadly in the area of cross-border (international) real estate development. I am also a professional member of both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS). My primary areas of academic interest are in Real Estate Development; Property Valuation & Investment Appraisal; Housing Markets, Policy & Finance; and Urban Land Economics. My geographical focus is predominantly UK and African real estate markets.
Biography
My interests in the real estate field began when I studied for my undergraduate degree in Land Economy at the Kwame University of Sciecne and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana. My interest in pursuing an academic carerr in real estate led me to take on a role as Research and Teaching Assistant (assisting in the delivery of courses in Property Valuation and Financial Mathematics) at the department of Land Economy following my degree studies.
Following my period as a teaching assistant, I won a Commonwealth Shared Scholarship to study for a postgraduate taught degree at the University College London (UCL) in Development Administration and Planning. Deciding to take a break from academia, I returned to Ghana in 2013 to take various roles in industry - working for the African Development Bank (as an intern) in the Economic and Monitoring & Evaluation Units before taking on a stint as a valuation, development and investment analyst in one of the leading real estate advisory firms in Ghana.
In my work stints, I consulted for a number of financial institutions, real estate developers, corporate organizations and private individuals in Ghana on areas including property & asset valuations, real estate development & investment appraisals, market analytics and general real estate advisory.
Not to abandon my keen interests in academia, however, I took on a lecturing role at the KAAF University College, Ghana (responsible for delivering courses in property valuation), eventually leaving Ghana to pursue a Doctoral qualification in Real Estate Development at the University of Reading. I currently consult on real estate for individuals and corporate bodies across Ghana, UK, USA, and Canada in addition to my academic roles.
My teaching approach thus relies on practical and theoretical insights obtained through a combination of my industry experience and academic research to deliver a blended academic experience for students.
