Summary

I am a Senior Lecturer in Law. My areas of expertise and research focus are company law, corporate governance, business law and comparative law (English and Chinese law). I am engaged in teaching, supervising undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students, and carrying out research.

I am a member of the editorial board for the Corporate Law & Governance Review. I am also a reviewer for the British Council Newton Fund, which builds international research and innovation partnerships.

I have had a number of research articles and book reviews on company law in England and China published in a wide range of academic journals, including Company Lawyer, International Company and Commercial Law Review, Journal of Business Law and Journal of Financial Crime. I am the author of Law Express Question and Answer (Pearson, 2015). I have also presented research papers at national and international conferences.

Biography

I joined the University of Portsmouth in 2014 as a Senior Lecturer in Law. Prior to this I worked as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Hertfordshire.

In 2009 I completed my PhD at the University of the West of England, Bristol, after obtaining my LLM (Master of Laws) degree in International Commercial Law at the University of Nottingham.

Research interests

My current research focuses on corporate governance, directors’ duties, shareholder remedies and share transfer in England and China. My recent paper Statutory derivative actions in China and the UK: ten years on was published in Company Lawyer in 2018.

Through my research I aim to improve company law and corporate governance in England and China.

Teaching responsibilities

I am currently teaching on the Company Law, Business Law, Legal Writing & Research and Legal Project modules. I am Coordinator for the Undergraduate Legal Dissertations module.

I would be happy to supervise PhD projects in the areas of company law and corporate governance under English and Chinese law.
