I am analytical environmental chemist with over thirty year experience. I obtained my PhD (1983) from the Department of Chemistry, University of Southampton). I was a post-doctoral research fellow in clinical chemistry at Southampton General Hospital, Southampton 1985-1990. I then was a Senior Lecturer (1990), Principal Lecturer (1999), Reader (2004) and Professor (2008) at the University of Portsmouth. I am the Programme Manager for Professional Doctorates in Health and Social Care for the Faculty of Science, Course Leader for the Professional Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences, Chair of Professional Doctorates Board of Studies, and a member of University Research Degrees Committee, University Research Degrees Operation Group, Professional and Integrated Doctorates Operational Group, School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences Research and Knowledge Transfer Committee. My research interests are in monitoring water quality, particularly by the use of passive sampling techniques.
Use of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques in biomedical and environmental analyses. Development of novel sample preparation methods in analytical chemistry. Use of high-field NMR in environmental toxicology. Development of passive sampling devices to monitor water quality. Fate of pharmaceutical residues in the aquatic environment.
