After qualifying in 2002 from The School of Clinical Dentistry at Sheffield University with a joint Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy I have worked in various sectors of the dental environment.
In 2007 I took a teaching post at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy, training student dental hygienists, therapists and nurses whilst maintaining my positions in general practice working within NHS, private and orthodontic dental clinics. In 2009 I completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
At the Dental Academy I am involved in the clinical supervision of students throughout the entirety of their undergraduate training along with the academic delivery of aspects of the pre-clinical units.
My progression within the Dental Academy has involved unit coordination, leading the personal tutorial system and undertaking the role of assessment coordinator for the department.
In 2017 I was appointed as Associate Head of Innovation which involves being jointly responsible for development and delivery of strategies and plans to meet innovation funding and activity targets within the school. This has a focus on income generating innovation activity, course development, collaborative & applied research and industry partnerships.
In addition, as part of the Academic Leadership team, I contribute to the quality assurance and curriculum development of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
