Filip Bergesen Vatle - Tidal Commons Avenue

Project overview

Located in Portsmouth, The Hard, "Tidal Commons Avenue" proposes a mixed-use development that combines public space and private living. Extending the masterplan intervention, it creates a new route from the maritime junction inland.

A multi‑storey architectural model with a curved roof element and fine detailing.
A small site model on a brown base with white structures, touched by a hand.

Responding sensitively to existing structures and heritage, the scheme transforms an urban infill site into an interactive public destination without disruption. By reconnecting the local community with nature, the proposal promotes wellbeing and restorative experiences through biophilic elements.

A warm wooden‑beam bedroom with soft light and a wardrobe.
A sunlit café interior with tables, chairs, and people in warm tones.

Functioning as both a circulation route and a destination, it acts as a connecting threshold within the masterplan, offering inviting public spaces alongside contemporary residential development.

A tall, plant‑lined corridor lit from above by skylights.
A bright exhibition hall with wooden floors, tall windows, and framed artworks displayed along clean white walls.
