Molly Faithfull - Stills From an Unknown Place

Project overview

Stills From an Unknown Place blurs the line between the surreal and the ordinary, inviting the viewer into a mysterious landscape that feels both peaceful and eerie. Drawing inspiration from cinematography, I examined the visual elements that go into cultivating a feeling or narrative. Utilising a combination of lighting, editing and composition, I set out to create visually rich images, with unique styles that allow them to stand out both singularly and as part of a wider narrative.

Subject and Environment

Throughout this project, I explore the relationship between the subject and the environment; how the two interact to build a narrative. Creating contrast between simple landscapes and surreal colour and light, I aim to emulate a sense of strangeness and intrigue.

Open Interpretation

However, the true nature of the images is to be interpreted by the viewer.
