Rebecca Hutchinson - The Office Posse

Project overview

This project explores a childhood stereotype I had that all adults worked office jobs. Researching stereotypes showed me that children often form them through family influence, imagination, and media such as TV and film. I believe this assumption came from hearing my dad talk about work and occasionally visiting his office, which led me to associate office life with adulthood.

A person with long wavy blonde hair in two low ponytails, wearing a white long‑sleeve top under a black‑and‑white plaid dress, shown against a plain white background.

Development and Characters

To develop my project, I interviewed my dad about his experiences in an office environment. He described office life as mixed; some days were enjoyable because of colleagues, while others made him want to leave as soon as possible. He also explained that TV and films often exaggerate office culture. Inspired by this, I created two of the characters to represent my dad’s different attitudes toward office life, while the others were based on my imagination and media stereotypes.

A person with long brown hair, wearing glasses and a light grey sweatshirt, shown against a plain white background.
A close‑up black‑and‑white image showing part of a person with straight, bright red hair cut into a blunt bob with bangs. They wear a black leather jacket draped off one shoulder, a black lace‑trimmed camisole, and a small pendant necklace, set against a plain white background.
