Volunteers' Week is a national annual event taking place from 1-7 June this year. We have a large community of passionate alumni, students, and staff volunteers who support the University by helping others and making a difference. We're thankful for their time and dedication to the University.
One of these inspirational volunteers is BSc Economics graduate Dimitra Stavridi who is a Product Development Manager at AIF Capital Group in Germany. She explains how she has played a supportive role as a mentor for the past two years:
My name is Dimitra Stavridi and I graduated in 2015 from the University of Portsmouth. I have been living and working as a Product Development Manager at AIF Capital Group in Stuttgart, Germany. My expertise lies in developing sustainable real estate investment strategies for institutional investors.
I have had the opportunity and honour the past two years to volunteer as a mentor for the Women in Economics Programme for the University of Portsmouth. The programme aims to address the under-representation of female economists in decision-making positions and public policy, by connecting emerging female economists with experienced ones. Throughout the programme, students can benefit from career guidance and support, as well as real-world industry insights.
Looking at what the programme has accomplished within the past year and how the number of students and mentors have grown, it is highly rewarding to see the impact that is generated and can hopefully be multiplied in the future.
A big thank you to Dimitra, and other volunteers, who continue to inspire the next generation. If you’re a graduate and would like to register as a volunteer, please visit this website.
