"I changed my university last minute - and it was the best decision I made"
Cristina hadn't planned to change universities - but after falling in love with Portsmouth she took her future in a different direction.
A change of heart
Cristina had already chosen her course and university. She selected her firm and insurance options and sent off her UCAS application.
Then a friend invited her to an Applicant Experience Day at Portsmouth. They had applied for the same course and already had an offer, so Cristina decided to go along - and the visit completely changed her perspective.
After experiencing what Portsmouth had to offer, everything changed...
Although she couldn’t change her original choices, Cristina knew she wanted to study at Portsmouth - so she decided to apply through Clearing.
Portsmouth stood out
Portsmouth immediately felt like home. As a city-based university, it offered Cristina an environment where she could picture herself studying and living long-term.
Having a friend there also made a big difference. It helped her settle into the idea of moving and eased much of her anxiety.
What Clearing is really like
Cristina found Clearing quick and straightforward. She started by completing the online application form, then followed up with a call to the Clearing hotline.
Staff on the hotline were great and they really put my mind at ease. Speaking to someone on the phone took my anxiety away. I was so happy when I got an offer to study on the course I wanted at Portsmouth.
Talking directly with university staff made the process feel much less overwhelming and helped her get answers to all her questions.
Advice to others
Looking back on her experience, Cristina encourages others not to worry about Clearing. Remember, our staff our on hand to help support you through your Clearing options; whether that's online, on the phone or in person.
Within a day I had everything sorted out - from applying to getting my place.
