The School of Education, Languages and Linguistics has successfully completed AELLCA Phase II, a British Council-funded project supporting English language teacher education, inclusion and international knowledge exchange in Uzbekistan, Central Asia.
AELLCA Phase II, funded at £23,000 and running from October 2025 to March 2026, was led by Lin Zheng as Principal Investigator. The project brought together a team including Peter Watkins, Mat Round, Nikki Fairchild and Tom Fleming, with colleagues contributing to in-country training, online webinars and collaborative academic exchange. The training and webinars focused on English language teaching, gender, inclusion, teacher development and inclusive pedagogical practice.
Building on the success of Phase II, the School has secured a further £20,000 from the British Council for AELLCA Phase III. This next phase will be led by Lin Zheng as Principal Investigator, with Peter Watkins as Co-Investigator, and will extend the project’s regional reach from Uzbekistan to include Kyrgyzstan.
