So you’re a brunch lover, like me, and have been craving an aesthetic stack of pancakes or avo-toast. You’re not sure where to look... Well here is your ultimate guide!!!

There are *A LOT* of options (close to campus too) that you should definitely check out. While visiting these eateries, you might experience a part of the city you haven’t been to yet.

If you're someone who has dietary requirements - fear not! I can also say that many of these cafes cater to different diets, never be afraid to ask if they can cater to your diet. I have done this and it often works out well!

In this blog post I will be sharing my top 5 to go for a brunch date:

1. Parade Tearooms

This place is a classic! You get the option between two lovely locations - Gunwharf and Western Parade. Whether you’ve just finished a morning shopping session at the outlet or you want to visit the common you won’t be far from good food. Parade Tearooms is well known for their yummy cakes but they also offer all day afternoon tea (£10), breakfast until 12pm as well as a range of lunch options. They give big portions at very reasonable prices. The Southsea location has great views of the beach and common. The restaurant is warm and welcoming. This place is definitely a good option to take visiting parents to.

2. The Canteen

Another highly recommended brunch eat out. A hidden gem in the historic part of the city. Right on the waterfront. The location makes it a unique experience where you can really appreciate the perks and culture of the island. Old Portsmouth is only a 20 minute walk from campus. They sell all day breakfast - waffles, pancakes, eggs and … bacon bread & butter pudding?! The prices are more than reasonable for a filling and hearty midday feast. They are family run and all about supporting local produce and businesses.

Price range: ££

3. Garage Lounge

Garage lounge achieves on so many levels.  Fun fact: This independent cafe used to be a garage. The fancy antique vibes and interior design makes you feel like you’re doing something right. Not only is the presentation pretty but the food is so good. This place has the best hot chocolate and good coffee! As well as their brunch & sweet breakfast options they sell delicious handmade cakes. The service is quick and the restaurant is super cosy and comfy.

Price range: ££

4. Delaneys

Another very picturesque visit close to campus. Castle Road is 10 minutes from Eldon on your way to Southsea common. It welcomes you with a gorgeous flower arch way. It has a cool rustic interior and looks a lot more expensive than it is. It is another family run business with a great warm vibe. Brunch runs from 9:30 am - 3:30pm from Monday to Saturday. They sell full english, french toast, salmon & avocado as well as some exciting option like “pill pill prawns”.

Price range: ££

5. Farm Kitchen

Palmerston Road is one of my favourite places in Portsmouth. The area is beautiful in the sun and there are loads of great places for food and drink. Farm kitchen offers something slightly different to the others with food inspired by the Mediterranean and middle east. If you're looking for good quality food and maybe something new definitely check this palace out! The menu includes shakshuka, Mediterranean breakfast as well as pancakes! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The interior is rustic and welcoming.

There are definitely way more options but these are my favourite places to go for brunch and give a nice range of what there is! Albert Road also has some more great cafes and eateries. Do you have a favourite place to go for brunch in Portsmouth?
