University of Portsmouth alumni Nicole Chapman

Looking for the perfect place to celebrate? Portsmouth graduate Nicole shares her favourite spots for making your graduation day unforgettable.

Graduation is one of those days you'll remember forever. After all the deadlines, late-night study sessions and unforgettable memories, it's finally time to celebrate everything you've achieved.

Whether you're planning a relaxed coffee with your family, a celebratory meal with friends or simply want somewhere to soak up the atmosphere after your ceremony, Portsmouth has plenty of fantastic independent cafes and restaurants to make your graduation even more memorable.

Here are some of my favourite places to celebrate.

A few graduation day tips

  • Book a table for you and your friends and family as a lot of restaurants get very busy over graduation.
  • Some restaurants are offering special discounts for 2026 graduates. Check out their social media or give them a call to find out more.
  • Want to avoid the crowd with a budget friendly option? Pack a picnic to enjoy on Southsea Common or in Victoria Park.

Start your celebrations at the Ravelin Park Graduation Village

After your graduation ceremony, head over the road to the Graduation Village at Ravelin Park to celebrate with your family, friends and coursemates.

Exclusively for 2026 graduates, you'll find:

  • Local food and drink vendors
  • A florist
  • A photobooth
  • Free goodies
  • An ice cream van
  • Photo opportunities
  • A live DJ

Nicole and her parents at Guildhall graduation ceremony

One of my favourite memories from graduation was celebrating over a meal with my parents afterwards. They'd been separated for a long time, so having us all together to celebrate felt incredibly special.

Neither of my parents had the opportunity to go to university, so being able to celebrate this achievement with them made the day even more special."
