Dr Eun Young (EY) Oh, Senior Lecturer in Economics and Finance, has written a policy brief that was presented at the international G7 (Group of Seven) Summit in Japan last week (19-21 May).
The G7 Summit is an international forum held annually for the leaders of the G7 member states of France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada (in order of rotating presidency), and the European Union (EU).
In the policy brief, ‘The Global South Growing out of Poverty, Inequality, and Exclusiveness - What the G7 Needs to Do’, Dr Oh wrote about financial empowerment and innovative access to finance for Think7 (T7); the G7 official think tank engagement group. The T7 group promotes research-based solutions to unfolding global challenges during Japan’s 2023 G7 presidency and beyond.
We proposed key actions for the G7 to foster financial inclusion to reduce poverty and inequality. These include the formation of a fintech task force, forging strategic partnerships, investing in technology infrastructure, prioritising regulatory cooperation, and funding comprehensive financial education. Together, we can unlock opportunities and tackle poverty and inequality.
