We are currently designing a new city landmark that will house the Faculty of Business and Law and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Victoria Park Building will have some of the largest teaching spaces on campus including a 500 seater lecture theatre arranged over two floors at the base of the building and two adjacent collaborative lecture theatres for 250. Both spaces will be fully accessible.
The main lecture theatre is being designed to support ceremonial and conferencing events as well as teaching. The proposed layout will be a fixed, forward facing format with comfortable upholstered seating complete with individual power points and a fixed desk on each row. The space will be equipped with high quality IT/AV provision for audience engagement supporting multiple screen presentations and connectivity with lecture theatres around the world.
The collaborative lecture theatre will be fitted with seating ideal for group working and will feature interactive, multiple screens around the room in addition to a front teaching position.
Both lecture theatres will offer exceptional facilities that will enable innovation in learning, teaching and research for the future.
Building our new Ravelin Sports Centre is moving at a pace. Insulation, cladding and roof coverings to the Sports Hall are currently underway. Work has also begun on building the interior walls in the basement and ground floor areas so soon the spaces for the reception, café, squash courts and fitness suite will become a reality.
The centre will open in 2022 with facilities for students, staff and our local community - including an eight lane swimming pool, 175 station fitness suite, sports hall, climbing wall, squash courts and ski simulator.
The 11,000sq metre site’s green features include a community urban orchard, green roof with solar panels, internal heat recovery systems and a biodiverse wildflower amphitheatre.
BREEAM, the world’s leading sustainability assessment for buildings has also rated Ravelin Sports Centre as “Outstanding” and the project was a winner at the BREEAM 2020 Awards.
